Do you require a use of a fan to sleep?

I know I do. Mostly because there are a lot of semi-trucks that barrel down the street in the dead of the night. Thus that makes a lot of noise and it makes it hard to sleep without a fan. Plus there is just something relaxing about a fan. I don't really have it blowing on me in the winter time but it helps that its on. So do you have to have a fan on when you sleep? Looking forward to reading your responses.

Yes, I do use a fan. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, it could be a cold winter night with the heater on and I still run my ceiling fan. In the summer when it's warm and the AC is on I will still have my ceiling fan on. I like the humming sound that it makes. If it's too quiet, I can't sleep as well. Isn't that crazy?!?!?!

Yes, the wrong kind of hum can really spoil the sleep. Glad to hear that you got things straightened out.
Pleasant dreams.

A light hum is good. Enough to be a soothing noise but not enough to be annoying and defeat the entire purpose of the situation. Thank you for your response. It was much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

i grow up using fan the whole day, its already part of every household here to have fan unless you have aircon or if they live in the province where theres fresh air and no fan needed. but in the city, whether its rainy days nor summer time we always have fan with us. and i have my own fan facing to just me, i feel so relax sleeping with a fan.

Yes, fresh air is great. Although there are times around here where the heat is really unbearable. Therefore the air has to be put on to be able to be comfortable. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Hey megamatt,I can't sleep without the fan buzzing..the noise helps me drift off to sleep..and yeah in winter I have turned it backwards facing away from me just to hear the noise..my brother in law is the same way..and when the races started...I need it..the race track is less then 1/4 mile away..but the cars sound like they are in your front yard..so the fan helps drown it out some..

A race track, I can only imagine how that would sound like. I think that would drive me insane really quickly. Given how loud those cars can get, its a problem. Of course, I live near an airport, so the planes taking off in the middle of the night is a problem and another reason why I have a fan on. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yes, its annoying to be sweaty in the middle of the night. Especially when it drips in my eyes and it burns waking me up. So that's not fun times. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I do use a fan in the summer time. It's not just for cooling but it helps to deter mosquitoes.
Like you, I have sometimes used a fan for "white noise". This is the gentler, softer, closer noise you create in order to drown out all other noise that is happening around you as you go off to sleep.

Absolutely, it helps deter those unwanted pests a bit. And great white noise as well. Without a fan, I might be able to sleep granted, but it takes forever. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Hi,friend,i think you must live in a hot place.
I don't use a fan at all. Because i live in a cold place. So the summer is pretty short and cool. Actually, we need heat supply system for our house.
By the way, i think noise is big problem for sleep. And one hour's quality sleep is much useful than two hours' poor sleep. So sometimes living in the center of big cities is not a good thing.

No not in a cold place. And complete silence really disturbs me. I mean really, really disturbs me and it causes me to always be awake, because I'm always looking over my shoulder for something to happen. Then again, if I have learned something, there are different people who sleep different ways. If you live a colder climate(a really colder one, as opposed to a moderate one), I can really see the need for something like that. Thanks for responding. Have a nice day.

Yes, that saves money. Unless it really is hot, the air goes off in the evening. Or rather it tends to kick off at its own and stay off for the night because it drops below the temperature in the house. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I get used to not be near the fan, in the rain the air was hot even before I needed cooling. Electricity in my house is not strong enough to turn on the air conditioner, we need to open all windows and turn on the fans who are in over my head. My ears hear the sound of the fan, so I am disturbed to sleep.

Do I need a fan? No, but I prefer it. I am currently housing a family member(they may have a mental disability, or refuse to grow up and take responsibility for their actions. The jury is still out on which is the case.) As they raid my kitchen with little to no regard of what time of day/night it is, I can't help but to hear and become annoyed by the sound.
I use the fan to drown out noise not emanating from my room. It works well. I could, and have gotten a good nights rest without it though. I'm more comfortable without it too.

Yes, that can be frustrating, those who make noise at odd hours of the night, without little regard for you. The reason why I need the fan or prefer it, depending on what angle you want to look at. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yes, there's nothing like a good breeze too. That can relax you. Just last week, there was a good breeze coming through here that relaxed me. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Driving the mosquitoes away would be something that would be useful in any sense I would think. Whether I would be awake or asleep. They tend to be annoying little pests, that I just want to swat a lot of the time. They are so very annoying in many ways, and can carry some deadly diseases, thus making them doubly more annoying. That is really something that makes me not the biggest fan of mosquitoes in the world. Still a very interesting use, one of the great ways to use a fan at night for sure. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

My room is one of the hottest in the house so I have a fan on even when I'm not asleep. It doesn't help very much though.

Yeah, I'm not in the hottest room but it can get pretty hot in the warmer parts of the day. I have my windows open, both fans on and I am still boiling if the air is not on. Thankfully the air is on right now but that's because its in the really hot range around here where it can go on. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Even in winter I use a fan. This is to avoid mosquitoes mostly because I get really enough with them. So no matter how much I am feeling cold I have to put on the fan to sleep properly and I have the mosquito net too which does not totally prevent the mosquitoes from biting me so the fan helps me out.

I really do. It's hard for me to sleep without hearing the humming of a fan, or an aircon. It's just too quiet for me... and even if it's already too cold, I still open my fan and just point it upwards so I won't have to feel the air, I just really need to hear the sound of it.

Yup i'm one of those who folks who can hardly sleep without a fan...I just got used to it and it would be like hell when there would be power cuts in the midnights in summers at my place.it sweats like damn and we cant even imagine a day with fan.Thank god to the Air condition in my dad's room lol i spent most of my day time there.great day.

Yes indeed. The power cutting in the middle of the night would be a bad thing. Its impossible to sleep without the fan, especially in those hot summer months. So a power outage in the middle of the night will be a bad thing. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Hi, it's so hot here in the Philippines. We have an El NiƱo phenomenon. Can you imagine if we don't use a fan. It's a necessity. The heat from the fan becomes so hot if use for a longer time but there's nothing I can do, I can't afford to buy an air conditioner likewise the price of electric bill is soaring up.

Yes, that scorching hot weather can make a fan necessary. In fact, I tried sleeping in the hot weather when the power had gone out one time without a fan. The key word is tried. I didn't succeed. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
