a stray kitten has a new home

After having this kitten hanging out around the part store in town for 3 or 4 days my husband bought it a can of cat food, that it devoured, it was so hungry, then he brought it home and gave her to me. He was afraid she would get hit in the road in town. I took her to the vet and was told it is a full grown cat!!! It is so tiny, reminds you of the old saying 'kittens are cute, but then they become CATS!!' well, she has adopted to house life very well, although she thinks she should always be held. She seems to know what cat litter is. TG!! Our other 2 cats have finally accepted her. So now we have 3 cats in the house, and the 2 rabbits, she isn't to sure about them. She seems to think they are 'big rats' and runs from them so they chase her! Our one cat was totally paranoid of her when she came but now he is playing with her and they like to chase each other. So the question I have is would you or your spouse have brought the cat home? Why or why not?

we are suckers for strays too - our 3 dogs and 1 of our two cats were strays that we found and brought home. I hate leaving them when they are so vulnerable, just find it so difficult to walk on by - though I have been banned from taking in any more at the moment, we have more than a houseful according to my hubby though he's as soft as me really :)

How wonderful that you gave the strays a home. My daughter has had strays come to her house and she has cared for them then they left for different reasons. Strays are easy when you live out in the country like we do. I have different people that bring them to me all the time. Once I got a call from our church custodians and they found a kitten stuck in the basement window vent??? really don't know how to explain this, anyway I went down, they told me they didn't know how I would get it out, it was all 'hissing' ... I looked at it, talked to it, for a while, petted it then picked it up!! No problem. I brought it home and fed it and took care of it.
Yeah, my husband planned o nthis kitten being out doors but she just needs some special care, she is so little......thanks for your response!

Strays appreciate you so much for taking care of them I think. I was at my daughters today and I pulled in and in her back yard was a white cat (she doesn't have any) I went in the trailer and asked her if she knew what was out there and she didn't so we went out, the cat came right to me after I talked to it for a few seconds really, anyway, it is long haired with pale yellow ears and tail. It is gorgeous!!! OHHHH!!!! Very friendly, very starved, she gave me some table scraps and we fed it. Then we went on our shopping trip. I was out of cat food at home. I got that and when we got back to her house the cat was still there and we fed it. It really needs some caring. Very skinny. I think it may have been someones house cat, the nails have been trimmed. Right now she doesn't know if she is keeping it or if I will be bringing another one home....as I said before It is a good thing we live in the country and on a farm. She doesn't think she wants it because all though she is on a farm they don't have the out buildings and they have a big coyote problem. This weekend they are going camping so I will probley get the cat. I will have to find it a home or this tiger kitten, I just don't think I want 4 cats in the house, none of these go out doors.

we've been lucky with our strays, they have all settled really well, we've had our oldest dog for 6 years and the other two for 3 years and our stray cat adopted us 6 years ago, he just appeared and started following us around, every time we came home in the car he would appear as if by magic and although he didn't always eat the food we put down for him he always came home to us for fuss so we took him in with our others.
We've moved home twice since we had the oldest two and they are all happy to come along although I've worried myself to a frazzle each time in case they wander off..

I would if I could. Cats are wonderful creatures. And incidentally, June is adopt a shelter cat month (I think your new little one applies), so good for you. I already have three cats so I am above my apartment limit and at the city limit for Cats in an apartment, so I wouldn't have been able to keep her, but I would have tried to find her a good home instead.

That is to bad you have limits but I guess there is a good reason for that. One of the many reasons I llike living in the country. If you read my post above this, you will know the dilema I am in now over this new cat that I found at my daughters this morning. I am sure it has been abandoned. I left it with food and water, and in my daughters care while she decides what she wants to do with it. She would like to keep it I think but her boyfriend is allergic to cats so they will have to decide what they wantto do. I told her I would take it if she decides she doesn't want it. She has 3 little girls that will be in love with it, one already is, the other 2 are in school...
I adopted a cat from a shelter 2 years ago and I love her but she has taken 2 years to warm up to and accept us. I have never seen one so 'standoffish' before. Thank you so much for your response it was nice meeting you.

aawwwww! that is so sweet. I would have or one of my first hubby's would have, but not the last one. he would take and give it to someone or something. maybe feed it when he saw it but he didnt like cats particularly. it was one thing we didnt agree on. he said its either me or a cat... so of course i chose him. truthfully i think if we'd been married longer or he hadnt passed away that is, i would have still gotten one. he also said he didnt want to buy a house ever again cause they were to much work. but i soon got my new house with everything picked by me. thats why i miss that man and hated loosing the house. sorry, off topic...lol

She is full of love. My granddaughter named her Tiger Lily. She wants lots of attention. So she really likes it when they come over. Some one to pet and hold her.
Sorry to hear you lost your house. We were extremely close to that buy praise God everything worked out ok. Yeah, the house is a lot of work, but I would never make it paying rent and nothing to show for it. Of course, I have been fortunate and never had to rent, been the landlord instead!
Thanks for your response, nice talking to you again.

Oh hell YESSSSS!!!! I've taken in more strays than I care to count & of course I already had atleast 1 if not 2 more cats at home!!!! It takes a few days for them to work out who will be the alpha cat, but they always seem to get it worked out!!!

I have a friend that every time a stray shows up at her house she brings it to me! We have an outdoor stray tom right now that really rules the roost! He came a few years ago, a couple months after my grandson's dad moved off the rental property down the road. My grandson say's it is his dads cat but his dad says it isn't! That he just looks like him. I think it is just because of the timing!!!! He won't let any other male cats come around. He is extreme territorial. I was surprised he let the female stay. daaahhhhh!!!!
