It is all in the news about the highly anticipated adaptation of the game franchise Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. We may have seen some film trailers of the said movie and we are all excited to see the whole movie itself. Yes, the year 2010, promises some good if not promising movies which we can enjoy for the coming months. There were so many game to film adaptations of the past, some made it good while other's were sub par as compared to its game version. The anticipated movie Prince of Persia is much talked about these few days, especially about some criticisms regarding the lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Some blogger stated that the lead role should not be for Jake because he has no Persian blood or Middle-Eastern heritage whatsoever and he even stated that could be an insult to Persian's and white people as well. I was just wondering how could this be an issue since it is just a movie and it is fictional by itself, and no real portrayal of real persons or places whatsoever not like in movies let say Mandela wherein it is a real portrayal of Nelson Mandela who is of African descent meaning the lead actor should be black and not white. I think the bloggers just exaggerrated to much if not too emotional about this kind of things. What do you think my fellow mylotters?

I think he is the lead actor in prince of persia. Well, considering his race and the part that he's playing, i think it's kinda off as well but we have no choice. He's been chosen to play the part. People tend to dig deep when it comes to these. Can't they just stop the race thing for a while? Geez..

Yes you're right there my friend. I don't know why some people tend to bring up racist issues among other things in such movies. We all know movies are made to entertain the viewers and movie enthusiasts but some people make those simplest things of criticisms especially with regards to who plays who with clauses about what the actors race or cultures are. Yes we the producers can go for the real depiction as much as possible but what if the actor with the true blood is not that good to portray the lead role then would definitely be a flop. So people should not be too blinded by race or anything else especially in a movie, besides all of us here on earth are created equal with the same set of fingers and feet, with the same kind of anatomy so lets set aside differences in colors or race, we are after all brothers and sisters living in a single place called earth.

Well it's no big deal. Prince of Persia is a big movie and they need a big actor or bankable actor to carry the movie. Anyways the way I look at it, it seems the make up has a success in making Jake look like a Persian. Remember Ben Kingsley playing as a Jew in Schindler's List, I think Ben is not of Jew descend but rather an Indian but he played that role nicely.
Anyways why are they complaining about Jake of his not persian descent, the Prince in the videogames itself doesn't look like a Persian anyway.

@kenites it's not a race problem, well not entirely, as it's a cultural and marketing issue. The problem is that actors who are attractive, white, or big box office draws tend to bring in the most money. In the case of this film it was a good looking guy. That's why Hollywood and other studios are afraid to experiment with culturally accurate casting, because this is a matter of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Not to mention the average American regardless of their race has this dumb mind-set where they can't relate to a character that doesn't look like them. So seeing how the general movie-goer is white well, so are the characters...
