Why does a lot of people think Microsoft suck?

I guess that it is a sort of reminiscence from the time of windows 95 & 98... i remember that in those times the ms os used to freeze and crash all the time, so whoever used windows in that time is still cursing microsoft for all the problems those systems caused! I personally like both win7 and winxp (let's avoid talking about vista for a while....) and i also like to use linux distro.. I don't like much mac computers but i suppose that this is just due to the fact that i am not used to using them, having worked for a lot of years with ms os's. Anyway microsoft does not suck, but as every semi monopolistic player it is not likely to gain the public favour!!

As far as I know I have also used MS since I was aware of the computers so I sort of like it too. When people talked about computers I was only focusing on MS so till now I use it and I think people who has found new stuffs prefer to change for a trial.

early versions of MS are buggy and crashes frequently and since they are a bit expensive some consumers are disgusted over its performance. others as you have said are merely fanboys who will only take sides on what product they adore. MS has been also a favorite target of hackers and exploits due to its massive appeal and user share compared to other OS, as a resort of this, often times the OS performs under expected conditions. and some still implies that MS should lower its OS prices and offer something to the freeware world which is not a business agenda of MS since it is a profit oriented organization. But generally i find MS useful and more appealing to common users as a testament of its popularity unmatched by any other OS.
