I'm wondering how often I should bath my dog. Judging by the amount of filth she gets into it should be every day but I've been told twice a year by some and once a month by others. I put her in the bath for the first time when she was three months old because she was black from jumping in a bog in the woods. Then I blow dried her hair. She rolled over on her back and was clearly loving it. How often do you bath your dog and how/where do you do it?

I bath my dog every 4 days. He loves to play with water. I don't know if it can do any harm to its body like sensitivity and etc. As long as I can smell its body odour in 3-4 days day, I will bath him. I don't like my dog to be stinks...

Goldie, if after you bath your dogs, they do not emit odor, then bath as needed. Some dogs will still smell due to either their diet or a health condition that should be looked into. If they smell good for awhile (a week or so ) after having been bathed, then bath every couple of weeks then. As long as you rinse well and use a good quality pet shampoo you should be fine. Never use human products on a dog. The reason is because our PH is different than a dogs. Our shampoos are not formulated for a dog's PH.

thanks for the advice. I always use dog shampoo on my dogs. I put them in the bath together and use a hand shower to rinse them thoroughly and then lots of towels and a hairdryer. They smell lovely for a day!!!it's such a lot of work though

it's interesting to hear how often you all bath your dogs compared to me. Mine get bathed only every 2-3 months. Other than that they swim in rivers and lakes etc and that gets the muck off them. They can be a bit smelly tough, I agree.I'm only following official advice about how often to bath thm but now I'm wondering if I should start to do it more often

i have a black labrador and i bath her in the shower every 1 or 2 weeks. obviosly if i've just bathed her i wont let her get dirty that same day. . and if its closer to bathing day i can let her play and get dirty freely . . . only 2 times a year would be nasty. if i don't bath her every 1 or 2 weeks she stinks. and i guess its kind of the same with medium to big sized dogs.

I'm gonna start bathing them more often then cos they do get pretty mucky but they seem to be self cleaning cos after they dry off they never seem to look very dirty and they're yellow labs

the things that my black lab sleeps in my bedroom by my side. i would recomend anyone who lets the dogs live in the house to bath them at least once every 2 weeks. her hair dries so quickly i have no trouble with it. while u bath ur dogs u should also talk to them kindly so they relax if not they could have a bad time feeling ur punishing them or something. good luck!

Hey Goldie; I can't imagine bathing my dog only twice a year. It is said to not baqth a dog too often as it can strip their coat of natural oils. Makes sense. On the other hand, I have a small 6 pound Yorkie cross. I bath her once a week. Mostly because she exercises outside and is at the doggie park several times a day. Not always does she wear shoes and she sleeps with me. Also, I do not bother to use the flea medicine that is applied to the back of the neck any more. Personal preference. I feel it is too toxic for my furbaby. The vet has informed me that as long as I use a decent, good quality shampoo and cream rinse, I can bath her once a week with no problem. Just rinse well. Sometimes we go over one weeks time, depending on how clean she remains. Since my dog is small, I bath her in the kitchen sink with a mobile shower nozzle that I slip over the faucet. When I bath my brothers 18 pound Jack Russel, I bath him in the tub and I use a juice jug to rinse him off. Hope this helps. I blow dry my Yorkie in the winter months and she loves it too. She doesn't roll on her back but she sits and fans her head back and forth, where she wants the warm air to blow on her chest and neck. Cutest ever. I use Natures Best Natural Vanilla and Oatmeal Shampoo/Conditioner. A two in one.

I bath my puppy in the faucet just let it flow until it is finish. After doing bathing it will roll down on the floor or soil and it will dirty again. Sometimes I felt difficult in bathing it as it is so movable and wants to go out from it. It does not like to be wet and afraid of water and make sounds as it was clean up. Sometimes I am afraid to be bitten by it. And now it is big I am afraid to do it as it wanna eat me oh. And it is so heavy already. I want to do it everyday or two three times in a week.

I bathe my dog 2x a week because we live in the tropics and since it's summer here and very hot, I bathe her every other day. I give her cold water with ice to drink to prevent heat stroke. Also I wet a hand towel and pat it on her during the hottest times of the day. She sleeps inside our house and we want a clean house that is germ free. So we have to make sure she is clean. Also my Jack Russell cross easily smells I dunno if it's due to the climate or what so I need to bathe her twice a week. I also use a deodorizer so she won't really smell as we have lots of visitors everyday.

Twice a year is DEFINITELY not enough. I used to bath my dog I think once ever 3 weeks or so. So about once a month give or take a little bit. It also depends on how dirty your dog gets too. Obviously if your dog gets in the dirt or mud, you're going to want to give them another bath so that they're clean again. A clean dog is a healthy dog.

well,I guess I've got very smelly dogs then LOL but books written by so called experts say don't bath them too often cos they'll lose their natural oils. Bathing them is a real chore

The technical answer to this is every 4-6 weeks. But this does not take into account how dirty your dog get and everything else. If your dog is out in the woods and gets extremely dirty, try simply washing her down with clear water, do not use shampoo as often. Also a good stiff brush will get rid of much of the dirt and prevent you from having to wash her so often.
