Many people chat online, as it is a popular method of instant communication. Some people like to keep the chat records. However, if you share a computer, you might not want other people to be able to view your chat history. In order to delete the chat history from a computer, you must find and delete the index.dat file, which is a hidden file that stores a history of everything conducted on your computer.
Especially in office computer, I like to delete the chat history. How about you?

I seldom use public computer. Whenever there is a need for me to rent a computer outside our home, I rarely chat also. About your question, I do not delete chat history on my yahoo and msn messenger. I save all the informations for future references. I am not much into chatting and once I do chat, it contains something important. As I am always a busy person, I do not find much time to save the important messages to a folder or to my computer so I just let it in my chat history. I usually chat with my superiors, trusted friends, and family acquaintances.

When using a public computer I believe it is necessary to regularly delete public chat history files. It is very easy for an invasion of privacy to occur if you keep them on there.
Even though I am on my own personal computer, I often delete my chat history as it takes up valuable space after a few years of accumulating logs from various instant messengers. However, if I need conversations for proof of anything I make sure I back it up.
Humorous conversations are also saved to laugh about later if I find them particularly amusing.
