I usually have the television on for noise and company. I wonder if you turn on the television to watch a specific program or do you leave it on most of the time because thenoise is comforting to you. I know some of you don't have televisions. Is it something you miss or do you do fine without one?

I have seen it clear through about half a dozen times or so. I miss it cause I don't have cable right now. Hope they have it on still when I get cable again.

My television most days only comes on when my husband turns it on..on rare occasions I will turn it on..when I can yank myself away from the computer long enough..which isn't often..lol...I can live without one..but only if I have something to replace it like books, computers, games and stuff..I grew up without a television..so I can take it or leave it..but if I had one in my computer room.. I would watch it more..or if I had a laptop..lol

I tend to have both on. Certain things I enjoy throughout the day. I am getting better about having some silence too during the day. I grew up with one and my mom loved it so I have that history. I have a laptop so tend to sat on my bed and watch the tv I have in my room.

The computer is much more my friend than the television at this time. Of course, if hubby has his way and we get some kind of service and more channels it may become my friend. I am upstairs, and the television is downstairs, so I do not turn it on for company.

If you get cable there is so much on there. I miss it so much! National Geographic and A&E and BIO. Oh, and then the vintage movies on TCM and AMC. I miss them! Especially at night when I can't sleep. Ugh!

Yes the television is a good friend of mine. I like watching the History and medical channels. I like watching and learning. I try to limit my viewing time. I read alot and of course use the computer. I think it would be something I would miss but I think I could find something else to fill my time. Happy Hunting my friend dl

I have been trying to limit my viewing time too. I had to take out my cable for the time being and I am sure missing it. I am reading more again so that is good. All has a lot to do with my mood. I like the tv on as sort of company during the day.

Actually if I am home alone I do put on the tv for some background noise. When I was a school kid I could never do my homework or any revision without some background noise, so I always had the television on and I never found it to be a distraction. My daughter is a total opposite, she gets distracted far too easily so she does her homework alone in her room in absolute silence.

I'd more agree with whoever they were who got 2 of my favourite quotes about TV published..."TV is Chewing Gum for the Eyes" and "Most of mankind's inventions have been time savers-and then came Television"!

I could very happy live without my telly even though i do have the telly on an awful lot of the day as company it wouldn't be the end of my world if you took the telly away from me, I would just go and do other things nad listen to the radio more. Daytime telly is full of chatty shows so I really use the telly like the radio and stop doing jobs etc when they are doing something I really want ot watch, just as I would stop and really listen to something on the radio. In fact our telly went on this morning at 8.15am and is still on and won't go off until about 10pm. Now that sounds really bad but I have only really sat down for 30 mins and actually watched something on it, the rest it has been background noise etc

I did a discussion last year asking how long people had their tv's on and how they used them. Most kept it for background noise and company. If I don't sleep and don't go anywhere I have the tv on for most of a 24 hour period.

Yes, I keep my television on all the time because my house is so quiet without it. I'm set back quite a ways from the road and I was told when daddy built this house years ago, he had the walls sound proofed. I'm in the city limits but I still consider myself out in the country. I guess it's because I have so much property around my house. I watch Little House On The Prairie for 2 hours in the afternoon and I was rfdtv a lot during the day, too. Have you ever watched that channel? As Willie Nelson puts it lol, it's rural america's most important network. They have a lot of good stuff on this channel for horse owners.

I have dishnetwork. That might be the reason why I can get rfdtv. I think you can get it with direct tv, too. I'm not sure. Rfdtv has a lot of programs about gardening, tractor pulling (which I don't care for), quilting, farming, horses, cattle, and there are country music shows on this station, too. There are also news type programs such as Prairie Farm Report, Virginia Farming, etc. I don't care for those, though.

I use to turn on the television to watch my favorite anime and t.v series. we don't turn the television if we don't watch because its only a waste and add to our electric bill, we do value and saving our electricity since we are getting a low source of it and also to decrease our monthly electric bill.

Television is indeed very good friend. I'm infact addicted to some comedy serials and channels like Discovery, Travel & Living, History etc. TV act as a stress buster when I reach back home from work and good buddy on weekend if I'm not traveling or have no plans to go out with friends.

When I am home and something is on Ill watch. Other than that I spend all of my time in my yard with the dogs and the grass. When my lady and I are actually home at the same time we sit in the yard with the dogs and watch the sky. It has to be the most relaxing without going to the beach. TV used to be on all the time, not anymore.

Hey celtic~ I am just the opposite! I prefer if I want "noise" on for company like when I am cleaning and need motivation or a "beat" to move to I'd much rather listen to music! It gives me a more incentive to move faster and get myself going! I don't watch much tv, except for one soap "General Hospital" during the day and then I don't even watch tv until late at night, if at all! I am usually on here if I'm not watching tv! I have quite a few friends who always have to have the tv on for company! For me it's music, or quiet!

I was conditioned from childhood to watch tv. I used to listen to music while I cleaned house. I probably will do that again. I enjoy quiet. Half the time I don't even know what is on the tv. It is just on for noise and company.

Television has always been a big part of my life. My family always watched television together. Now if the television is not on, I feel like someone is missing. Television can be a great friend and spirit lifter when you need it. The television doesn't talk back and listens to every word you have to say.

I feel the same way. It sure does! Sweet thing that it is. I am trying to do alittle better and just have it on for certain things.
