Sensationalization of civil war leads ABC News to possible commit a libelous offense.
It is not uncommon for journalist to sensationalize events as they seek to gain or maintian the reputation of being the top news reporter or media house. It is now common knowledge that there is a civil unrest in Jamaica as sercurity forces are engaged in a battle with thugs who support the US sought drug don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke. Dudus is wanted in the US for drug and gun trafficking charges. Yesterday News broke that ABC News was carrying reports which claimed the Prime Minister Bruce Golding was a criminal affiliate of the drug don. Strong proclamations to which the PM as taken an offense. Here is a link to the Prime Minsiter of Jamaica's response.

Checks with the US government about the allegations leveled at PM bruce Golding saw the state department denying having knowledge of any such claims. In the report ABC News even claimed that thugs had taken over the Kingston Public Hospital. That one was a shocker to me and many Jamaicans at home as it was such an outright lie. Three hospitals (The Kingston Public Hospital, The Bustamante Children's Hospital, The Victoria Jubilee Hospital and also the Blood Bank) are in the down town Kingston area and as such have fallen within the area where the unrest affects them. None were taken over by criminals. Here is a link to the US state departments response to ABC's claim.

People ought to be held responsible for what they say especially as it relates to the reputation of others. ABC News has definately shown how gutteral reporting is done. The civil unrest within itself is enough for the country to deal with. It is a disgrace that a News station would further seek to heap other autrocities on the situation just to to seek fame and glory. It is evident that they unabashedly seek glory with a total disregard for the impact of their actions on the lives and wellbeing of a nation and a people.
ABC news and other journalists and media houses who are covering the event ought to stick to reporting the events as it unfolds or else shut up. This is a situation which does not need to be sensationalized. The citizens are fed up of their politicians and the don-manship which doggs the country and would certainly not be appreciative of "wanna be famous for reporting" personnels or media houses who seek to bury the nation, as they the citizens seek to take control and change course.
ABC please take your savenger-like reporting elsewhere or simply shut up and for once employ responsible journalism. The common principle is, if you get a lead on something do not report it as if it is a fact until you can supply proof. Many persons worldwide were excited by your claims on the Prime Minister but now there is no proof to back your claims and your own state department is saying they have no such documents.
As it is now Prime Minister Golding is under scrutiny and under pressure by the current happenings and the Jamaican people are not prepared to just back down. We are in search of answers to many things and can do without the sort of false alarm you created. Let the events play itself out. Do not help yourself up another rung on the ladder of fame and status by riding on our backs.
Fellow mylotters you may comment on the situation as it is in Jamaica but please make sure you research and make responsible comments or simply rant about poor journalism if you like.
