In Memory Of Jay, a dear friend....

I'm always haunted with a memory of a good friend who passed away last February. He's the only child of a mother who has cancer. The saddest part of his situation is when he got sick and was hospitalized. He doesn't have anything; he's poor. No money to spend for hospital bills and medications. He asked everyone in our office if they could help him financially. For 3 months in the hospital, help from us is not enough so he decided to ask our boss if he could give him a salary advance for 2 months. It breaks my heart hearing our boss saying "we are not a bank. How could I suppose to give you money when I don't know if you'll be going back to work or not. How could you pay me?" How could he do that to a person who worked loyally for 2 years in the company, working more than 10 hours a day without having any overtime pay. I know that he died out of depression. Now I'm thinking quitting my job. I served the company more than 3 years. I can't stay with my boss who doesn't have any heart for his employees... I'm thinking... I still have 6 hrs to decide.

So what have you decided? Most bosses and employers look after their interests first and eveything else comes later. The chances are that if you go elsewhere to work, it may be the same kind of a person under whom you would be working.I feel that it is better to stick on and go on with your job because , if I am not mistaken you have an edge because of your experience of more than 3 years. In the mean time you can make your boss feel a little ashamed of himself by getting together with the other staff and having a memorial for your unfortunate friend, he cannot refuse to have that.It is sad to know of such a case where your friend had to face depression along with the ill health , that he was already suffering with !

Thanks for your comments. Now, I have split decisions. But I already printed my resignation stating all what he have done to my friend. I don't know if he'll be awaken or be grumpy on what I have stated on my letter of resignation. I don't care.I'm not happy anymore with my work. I'm just reporting for work because of friends not just because I love my job. Have a nice day!!!!

All my condolences to your friend. Maybe you should think this through again. Your boss may be self-centered but are you really ready to lose a job cuz of that? Well, if you can get a new job easily then i take you won't have any second thoughts about quitting but there are a lot of people without a job these days. I suggest you just stay.

Yeah, thanks. I just had a call yesterday from a company who wants to hire me with a lower salary. I'm still thinking about it. I don't want to start from scratch, of course. I have more hours to think...hahhah...

Our choices in life show just what lessons we need to learn. Don't worry about Jay. We are all eternal. Jay is OK! Jay gave everyone the great opportunity to do the right thing. How would this world be if we all put people first?. We all can make this choice. Hmmm?? Jay might just turn out to be a great teacher after all.

For me no because it is very hard to find a job what your gonna do is pray to Jehovah God that your hurt pain would cured and all of that you let to him and Jehovah God would punished your boss.

He's a quitter with a valid reason. Is there no one else that can help him? Poverty really sucks. It goes to show that no one succeeds without money yet having no money doesn't necessarily mean that the individual is not a good person. As much as it saddens me to say it, today many people like Jay are living the way he lived and sooner or later they will get to reach the same fate if none have the heart to provide help. The mentality, it is only one life always loses to that of many lives.

I think that is the harsh reality my friend. Most of the times the companies are just protecting their own interest and not the interest of their workers. That is why we should always be ready anytime coz these companies are pitiless and care less for their employees. It's good to have a savings and a health insurance just in case something unfortunate will happen. Isn't your company offering you a health insurance? And I think your company is exploiting the workers since you work for 10 hours without overtime payment. I think you can report that to Department of Labor.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we're only working 4 days a week, that's the reason we have 10 hrs work per day. But my friend, jay extended working hours because he loved his work so much. And also because of report deadlines. He's too loyal. We also have health card. We are paid equally. I stayed for more than 3 years in the company because we don't have any labor issues. I just felt this recently, that I need to quit my job or else I might poison my boss.
