Hello myloters. I want to know on which speed do you burn the CDs and DVDs. Some recommendations. What's better, what is not. Pro's and con's. One friend told me that if I burn on the highest speed the chance something to go wrong is high. So how do you practice it?

it depends on the media (the cds and dvds) if you are using generic/cheaps one, then it is recommended to choose speed at the middle of the selections, i usually chose 24x because cheap media cannot sometimes handle the speed spins of the cd/dvd writer due to its quality. original media are tolerable at maximum speeds they can deliver a fast burn data (songs, movies, documents) without errors. to play safe i guess you should select the 2nd highest speed to eliminate errors, that is if you are not on hurry.

Thank you. What about the rewriteable CDs and DVD? Is the case the same?

yes, it boils down to what brand you are using, they created those speed settings for us to maximize time, imagine burning a 4gig data with a speed of 1x, it will take time, time is so essential now a days... so if you want to maximize speed and save time burning and avoid errors later, i suggest you invest on high quality medias such as sony.

Many people told me that SONY is a very good choice. I intend to begin to buy theirs products. Now I'm using the brand Verbatim. What do you think about it?

I have heard about that too! They say you risk loosing that cd if yo burn it with maximum speed, So for me I use average speed.

from experience, it really depends on what are you going to use those discs for. If the disc is going to contain data, and is going to be read only be PCs, go ahead, burn them at the highest speed. However, if you are burning an audio CD, and you are planning for it to be read by, say, a low-end CD player or the car CD player, I suggest burning it at the lowest speed. I've wasted so many blank discs just to find this fact out. It's the same for DVDs/CDs containing movies. If you are using a low-end player or an old one, consider burning at lower speeds. If using high-end players or equipment though, they're probably more than capable of reading discs burned at a higher speed. I'm not really sure what the cause of this is, but I'm guessing it's the quality of the laser or the components around it that determines what the player can read or not. In the case of the car cd player though, I think the low burning speed helps when the car is bumping up and down the road... this is just a guess though, not a expert assessment.

Well, this was new to me that for a low-end player, I have to burn it at lower speeds. 2 days ago I burned a DVD disk with a PS2 game at the highest speed and now (it's for first time) the game scrapes, and even it does not intend to continue forward in the game... I surely' won't burn at the highest anymore. :) Thanks for all the experience you shared friend. :)
