I very rarely invite people to my friends list. More often, I find, I am invited. Before accepting, I look at the person's profile and at what discussions they have started and replied to and what interests they have added. I ask myself 'why has this person asked to be added to my friends list?'
If that person has shown evidence that they understand what MyLot is about (good quality discussions, rather than trite questions or promoting their own money-making schemes) then I will accept their invitation.
Perhaps that seems a little 'snooty'. I already have well over 200 friends and I have a theory that 200 people is about the limit of people that one can genuinely be friendly with. Friendship is something that develops with time. Acquaintance (or adding someone to one's 'friends' list) is something which, maybe, will develop into friendship so I tend to accept those who seem likely to be people with whom I could be friends.
Friends are really those who share one's own interests and so, in MyLot terms, are people whose discussions I would be interested in and who would, conversely, be interested in mine. I would hope, too, that I could rate the posts of my friends positively and that they would also give me '+' ratings!

joys and sorrows??
hmm.. like it ver much.
many people prefer sharing joys than sorrows.
they also just wanna to share, not listen to us.
I hate it

i don't really have a criteria. i just like someone who's fun to be with, but is still there when you're going through a bad time. i like someone who doesn't leave me hanging. that's all i look for in a friend.

Well, the English proverb says "A friend in need is a friend indeed." I should like friendship be a relationship where both parties equally share the mutual benefits that friendship can give. There is a saying also that "giving is better than receiving" and I think this is very applicable to honest friendship.
