Has anybody written a children's book?

Children's Book - Just how hard is it to write a good children's book?

Have you written a children's book, if so did you get it published? Also do you need to do your own illustrations for the books, it is a topic I am interested in but I do worry about the illustrations.

Writer's Market - a book listing literally thousands of publishers - tells you exactly what a publishing house is looking for. I think Writers Market can be accessed online, or you can go directly to publisher's websites. Most of the children's book publishers in Writer's Market do not want you to illustrate. At least the bigger publishing houses. They use their own illustrators, or as someone below mentioned hook you up with someone so you can flesh out the ideas together. I have not had a children's book published, so I'm not speaking from experience, just information I have acquired along the way. Best of luck getting your children's book published.

Maybe a publisher would introduce you to an illustraor if they enjoyed the story?? Surely not all authors can also draw. You could maybe get kids to illustrate the book for you???? That may be something interesting to think about??? xxx

i wrote a children book in middle school. I was in drama in middle school so i used to act out scenes and stories that i would make up in the spot. So i finally decided i should write the story line. So i hope i get my children book published when i get older. I tried to get it published but my mom won't let me.

I have not, but said something to my granddaughter about trying it. Please let us know how it is progressing. I think it would be fun.

I wrote one but I wrote it for my mom's curriculum so we published it ourselves and I also used her illustrator. If you want to get professional illustrators, you can put a job online and get bids for it from freelancers. That way it would be less expensive.

If you decide to go the self publishing route, CreateSpace has good resources for authors of children's books. Message me if you want to be pointed in the right direction. I would think that children's books would usually want illustrations. I've illustrated a couple but never written one.

I have one written, but it is not illustrated yet. I have family members who will help me with it though.
