This is a shot of one of 8 Table Ace Acorn Squash I've planted this year. They take a lot of space so I avoided planting them. The wife loves them so we planted them. 4 were seeds planted and 4 were store bought plants already growing. They are all the same size now. Halved and cleaned out with butter and brown sugar baked for an hour and these are delicious. Ever eat Acorn Squash? Have a recipe to share maybe? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I have put nuts, raisins and apples in the middle. I have put something like a meatloaf mixture in the center. I think stuffing mix and served as a side with pork is very good. I was going to suggest soup. What was in your butternut squash soup? Ours has squash, broth, ginger, onions and chestnuts and is very good. It tends to grow on you. I know my cats even beg for it.

That's about how I prepare acorn squash, so, no, no recipe to share. You could try training them to grow up a trellis to save room. That's what I do with my cukes, otherwise I'd have no room for anything else.

A trellis? Sheesh then I'd have to build 4 more? No thanks. HAHAHA! I've a lot of room so no trellis as of this year anyhow. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

My 3 year old has always LOVED acorn squash. She ate hers plain or with a little butter is all. I never tried adding brown sugar to hers. I don't eat it myself though. My mom used to make it for my dad filled with this sausage and onion mixture. I am not sure what all was in it, but I think there were bread crumbs in there.

They are pretty good. The flavor reminds me of a sweet potato / yam. I'm the only one in my house who will eat them. Wich is a shame because a friend last year gave me her excess squash and I don't think they know what they are missing... plus it was FREE

Yum, I love acorn squash, but once again without a roto tiller I can only do so much and I have enough going on with my berry plants..I don't really have a recipe, but what I do is after slicing in half and removing the seeds, I add butter and brown sugar and bake it until done..Makes my mouth water just thinking about it..

I do all the tilling by hand inclusing my own home made composting. So I get a LOT of exercise doing my garden each spring. Ugghhh! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

hi grandpa bob oh I love acorn squash and fixed just the way you said, and oh so yummy. and they are super easy to fix that way. here at Gold Crest we never get winter squash but we get zucchini a lot. okay but not as good as acorns and hubbard squash. I can eat butternut but its not as tasty as acorn or Hubbard, dont know if Hubbard squash is even grown here in Calif. I have had butternut soup but its an acquired taste I guess and i have not acquired it yet. lol lol lol.

No, I never have eaten any acorn squash that I know of. I love fried squash, though. I always worry about the calories, though. A lady I go to church with told me I could bake the squash instead of fry it and it won't be near as fattening. What you do, is cook it like you normally would but you just use very little oil. Then, you put it in the oven to bake until they are brown.

You're lucky that you don't have to worry about calories. I'm not gobby fat. I'm 5'6" and weigh a little over 150. I just hope I don't get much bigger. I take after daddy's side of the family and there were a lot of overweight people on his side.
