Solving a Rubik's Cube

So I got a Rubik's cube for fun a few days ago and had absolutely no idea how to go about solving it. Fortunately, I found this website that shows you how to solve it really easily and quickly. It gives 7 step to solve the rubik's cube: The first step is to make a green cross: There are a number of ways to do this, like in the attached pictures, where you get the green and red blocks to line up as shown, then rotate the middle clockwise, the bottom left and the middle back anticlockwise. What would a good time be? And are there faster solutions?
