Do part-time jobs discriminate against those who already work full-time?

I've recently applied for a part-time moonlighting job, working with the elderly and everything went well from the interview, all the way through orientation. Keep in mind that a strike that i had on my background was almost 25 years ago and a misdemeanor, which had dropped off of my record after 7 years of it happening. My driving record shows 2 speeding tickets, one drops off in a few months. Everywhere i have went and worked over the years, i've passed my backgrounds without any problems. The reason behind this job not hiring me was because of my background and driving record. I call it a bunch of hog-wash. I truly feel that me being employed full-time and not needing the part-time job for my actual survival needs were the real reasons behind all of this. For some reason, i feel that jobs want you to really need them, so that your lifeline falls into their hands. I must not forget to mention that this job was only going to bring in maybe $200 a month, after taxes.
