I was not impressed with the White House. I imagined it would be way bigger! I also did not expect it to be in the middle of a busy area. I thought it would be in a residential neighbourhood. Maybe that is the Canadian in me coming out. Anyway, what landmark did you find disappointing when you actually saw it in person.

The White House in a residential area - I wouldn't want to be the neighbor of it.

Many years ago my parents, my brother and I went to Copenhagen, and my father wanted to show my brother and me some of the famous places like the round tower, the little mermaid, the paliament and the queen's castle. At first we couldn't find the little mermaid, and we spent a lot of time of looking for the statue. When we finally found it I was quite disappointed. I thought that it would have been much bigger, and it just didn't seem as impressive as I had imagined. I also thought that there would be lots of people, buildings etc in the area where the statue was, but the area was extremely quiet and there were no other people around.

I can't really think of anything that's been disappointing. I've been across the US and to a few European countries and have yet to be disappointed.
I always expect the White House to be bigger, but I'm not disappointed, really. Then again, the one time I was in it I was 9, so I remember it being bigger that it really is, I guess. The residence of the White House is connected to the west wing- all the offices and whatnot for the president and his staff. It's also an older building, and was most likely more isolated when first built.
