My mom says that I should not take a bath after a long tiring day at work. that I should rest first for a couple of hours before showering my whole self in water. She said that there is a negative reaction on my body, or that I might go crazy, (dunno why?). What do you think of this? Sometimes its so hot that I want to go straight to the shower and just wash away all the dirt I encountered on the way. Do you think its true? And what are the negative effects?

hi redphile,
you know i don't take a bath after a long day's work.
i just shower up not washing my head.sometimes i just wipe myself with a wet towel with soap and rinse again using towel so that i won't get too wet.i just feel like tired and weak if i do bath myself after being tired the whole day.
i don't wash my head.i guess that's what your mother's talking about that you would go crazy if you sleep with wet hair.sometimes sleeping with wet hair can cause your head ache.

That's what I'm scared of washing my hair, probably to clear things, what I was told not to do is to wash my hair/head after a long tiring work at the office, because it might give me headache or something. Especially if you are so sleepy and you forgot that your hair is still wet.

Yes, because you can drown your self with it, if your body is to exhausted by work you breathing is kinda hard right? and when you take a bath with that a sudden burst to your breathing may make you more hard to breath well that's only my theory since I experience it and also when you are exhausted you feel something hot flowing out your body, right? let your body take rest first and release those warm feeling in your body before taking a bath, I know a person who got hospitalize because he always take a shower after playing basket ball even he is so sweaty, he told us that, that is reason why he got confine in hospital

If your body is overheated when you get home from work, you definitely should not immediately go in and take a cold shower. If you really feel like you need to take a shower immediately after you get off of work and you are extremely hot, then you should take a warm or lukewarm shower. The reason that it really isn't safe to take a cold shower when your body is very warm is that the rapid change in your core body temperature can cause you to go into shock.

hmmm i think maybe its because your heart is pumping soo much blood when your exhausted and tired especially when your sweaty then thats the time to rest first before taking a shower but if ever your gonna use hot shower then i think its fine though! ^^

Maybe your mom is right. Taking bath is a hard work, maybe you have never realized. It costs a lot of physical power when you take a bath, especially if you like hot water. Weak body could lapse into a coma - don't take it as a joke, it's my really experience. But if you are strong and heathy, you can ignore my experience.

You don't have to rest for a couple of hours before taking a bath or shower, but if you have a strenuous job with a lot of heavy physical activity and your body is heated up, you should give yourself around ten minutes to let your body temp cool down to normal before your shower or bath.
A shower or bath after a hard day at work is a good way to relax and refresh your body. There are no negative effects. However, if your mom is really concerned about this and you want to honor her wishes out of respect and consideration, there's no harm in waiting that couple of hours either.

I really cant see how having a wash after working hard could possibly be of any harm to your health what so ever.
If you are tired then going in a bath may not be a wise idea, incase you fall asleep. If you are having a shower there is no possibility of this happening, so whats the problem. When I finish work especially after a hot day, the last thing I want to do is sit about for a couple of hours in my own sweat and dirt.
Have a wash and getting refreshed can only have positive effects.
Stay clean and have an enjoyable time here in myLot.

You should ask your mom about this, find out where she heard that from because now I'm curious lol. I've never heard of this happening ever. I don't think it's true either. In fact, everyone I know has a bath after work especually working at my work. I work in a nursing home and by the time I leave that's all I think about is getting into the shower because I'm dealing with germs all night long.
Take care

I've never heard such a thing. I think it's just a mythm that was told to her and she believes it and is passing it on to her children. I always jump right in the shower when I get home and nothing is wrong wit me? I know alot of people that do as well. So just go with what oyu think is best!

Hi, redphile. I have never heard of this before. If I am very tired from walking and being out in the sun, I will rest myself some. That way I can gain my energy back so that I can take a shower. Maybe you should try doing this yourself. I don't think that there are any negative effects of showering after you get off from work.

When you work the whole day, you're body temperature raised a bit. So sometimes you get sweat, and it's for cooling you off, besides clearing the poison in your body. So if you take a shower, you're body become cold with water in a sudden, and your sweat stops coming out, and stayed in your body.
It doesn't mean that it could be a problem to your health, but it's a lot better if you cooling off a bit before you taking a shower, wait until your sweat and body temperature to adjust.

adjust! I think thats the right term for the body temperature to adjust since coming from work and the travel time, we would all be sweaty and hot, so its better to at least get a rest before taking a cold or even a warm bath, especially if taking a full bath from head to toe.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking a shower right after work. My yoga program thing said that you shouldn't bathe for a half hour after doing yoga, but I don't quite understand that. I really can't think of any negative effects, though.

It is possible if your body is over heated and the water to cold to send your body into shock. Generally when you come in from the outdoors and are overheated it is best to wait a little bit (maybe half an hour) and allow your body to become accustomed to the temperature of the house you are in and then to make sure not to use cold water when you go to take your shower/bath.
I know of no way you can go crazy from taking a shower or bath, just that it is possible for your body to have an adverse reaction if you are not careful about things such as temperature. She appears to have heard of this but to have taken it a bit further then is actually necessary.

Yeah I think that's what it is, hmm. the going crazy part, well I think its just superstition, like if you go to bed with wet hair, you'll go crazy. Maybe because you'll get a crazy headache every time and if done always, then well, you might go crazy. lol.

Ya especially those who just finish a strenous heavy work or exercise, better wait like half hour before hitting the shower.Because let your body cold down first. Sometime if hit the shower immediately the head will feel dizzy. Usually after gym , cold down first mop the sweat with towel first, do some light strecthing first before hit the showers.
