what does a handbag do to a woman's beauty?

for me, nothing. with the craze of pricey handbags hitting the u.s. (i don't know why it was headlined. that craze never died.) it made me wonder why women love handbags so much. i don't. there's a certain handbag criteria i have: pouch like or tote or handbag or any style that wouldn't need slinging on the shoulders for this destroys a clothes silhouette. and it has to be washable. which means i never got to have a lot of handbags. they accumulate dust in the cabinet and dirt that you cannot wash off.
what's your criteria in selecting a handbag? or do you even love handbags so much to pay a dear price for it?

Hi Ritchelle,
I've always wondered about this same thing myself. Now with the cost of some handbags up over 100.00 and women being excited in owning them, I really have to wonder. I have one store-bought purse that my daughter picked out and pushed me to buy. I did finally and because she was right...it is me. It is a big pouch type bag with really cool material. It cost me 15.00 and that is way more than I'd normally spend for something like that so that gives you an idea on where I'm at with the purse craze. I normally make my purses. My favorite is made out of toddlers overalls. It's easy and quick and so cute and handy. I made one for each of my girls out of overalls that they wore when they were little. I also have made some out of larger sized overalls which make for good totes or larger purses. I buy the overalls at yard sales for 1.00 or less. Can't beat the price and I get lots of compliments on them. At one point, I was making and selling them.

I don't think it affects your beauty. how could it.
I'm not a handbag enthusiast, I just have enough to go with different other things I wear, or different social occasions.
so a few small ones for evenings out. a few smart, a few funky.
one smark leather bag.
several large canvas type bags that hold about everything you need in them.
and a few rucksacks.
I'd struggle to spend more than £25 on a bag. and when they're over £15, it takes a lot for me to buy them.
my favourites are.
one which was half price, so cost me £22.50, and is a lovely little sparkly clutch.
a rucksack like a cuddly toy bat
a hologrammy little bag with pictures of different people and objects, that change to the word LOVE in lots of fonts.

so, we can say that it is plainly an ego thing or a tactless act to buy such expensive handbags when they're not heiresses, right? maybe owning one expensive bag is okay but isn't this addicting?

It can change a womans whole appearance....It doesnt per-say change beauty, but it just like the difference in wearing a tshirt with stains all over and a brand new tshirt.... It just makes the overall appearance look better

nothing actually, but i think it's more on satisfaction and pride that they carry designer handbags, i guess? i am a bag lover myself and i too buy designer bags, but it's because i know that the craftsmanship and quality are proven already. i don't horde though, and right now i only have 6 bags over the past 4 years. i like those hobo bags or those bags/satchels that are very casual. i only have 1 structured bag for office or for more business-y look, plus one bag that is good for day and night/more formal events. as to the price... well maybe $2k is my limit. but like what i always say, i don't go beyond my means.
cheers and happy myLotting!

and i thought this designer bag thing is addicting. as for the hobo bags and the satchels, aren't we of the same feather ? i do buy those types of bags but only they meet my criteria. so , most of the time i end up with nothing. and i don't buy designer bags. i just can't bear it that i have such an expensive thing when my other relatives barely have any.

Hi! I am not really into those expensive handbags. I only buy one because I need it to carry stuff when I go out. I usually pick the bigger one so it can contain all my stuff in there. I go for the functionality rather than style and I don't really care if my bags are no longer follwing the trends. I like bags but not the fashionable one, as long as it suits my taste and it functions accordint to its purpose.

I am not sure either.I do buy bags for their sole purpose: to carry my things.I have a LOT of things to carry everyday.there's my make-up kit,my toiletry bag,my umbrella,my phone,my Ipod,my sunglasses,my pencil case,my fan,my IDs,and sometimes,my snacks.I am a big bag junkie,by big bag I mean the size of a laptop bag.I am not a fan of small purses or clutch bag.if I will spend some money on a designer item, though,I will choose a nice pair of shoes rather than a bag.
