like in high school you get the popular cheerleaders, the jocks, the prom queen and the chess club team who drool over the cheerleaders and do their homework for them when the cheerleader thinks theyre losers and they get their heads flushed down the toilet and stuffed in lockers. are things really that way like how typical american high school is percieved in movies as here in the schools in england theres no groups and everyone just gets along and mixes

all over the world movies doesn't represent the culture of any nation, as you know the the movies are reel world than the real world , so you can expect the situation in movies would have happened as part of real world.

i live in the uk and i would say the english movies represent this country well and everything seems accurate but american movies seem a little overdone

Oh yes, English people are often portrayed as being very upper class in films, like we all talk like Hugh Grant or something! I live in the UK and sadly do not have the money or looks of Hugh Grant!

thanks i have never been to america hatley and was wondering what its like, now i know its probably bogus. but the english movies i watch are probably different, anything with hugh grant is a no, no as he's a bit of a slob but british movies i have watch and soaps and stuff are a good portrayal of english people in my opinion so thats why i was wondering why it would be different for americans

chantalreanne I think you would be bored if they portrayed our American teens as they really act in high schools. hollywood producers ham it up to make it all a lot more exciting. oh sure there are prom queens ans jocks but not on the scale that those misleading movies show and most to the crap they show in movies is just that, crap. No kids do not get stuffed in lockers or have their heads flushed down toilets. thats utter nonsense. And I can bet that everyone in an English high school does not just get along. in any school in any land there are going to be bullies and snobs. maybe you use different terms but they are there just the same.No we Americans are not portrayed right at all in movies. Come to America and see us as we really are. I can bet you will be a bit surprised. that movie must have been really awful and has indeed given you a distorted picture of a real high school

i have been to 3 schools in britain and there has never been any stereotypes of people, everyone just mixes into all kind of different groups, theres no limit, pretty girls hanging around with ugly girls i feel like everyone is equal but there is a lot of cliques portrayed in american movies. either way american and english schools would still be quite different but thanks for your input

sometimes it reflect the director's artistic expression, most of which are fantasies that are inline with real world. so i guess in a way they are what they are in movies, but not always.

Yes, I wondered that too. I don't really understand all the terms either, like freshmen and collegiate and all that kind of thing. High School and College are different in the US to how they are in the UK too, different aged kids and everything. When I think of US schools, I do think of Grease and more recently films like Stick It.
