Am happy to hear this about passports

I am planning to go to Philippines this December with my wife. From there we will go to Iowa and Wisconsin. I have a valid passport but my wife’s not, it is pending clearance at the district police headquarters, the always give the report, ‘the applicant is absent’. They need money as bribe, which I will never give.
The government is opening 'Passport Seva Kendras' (PSK) in 77 centers across India in a year. The new system will ensure that an applicant gets the passport three days after his or her police verification is completed. This will ensure that long queues for filing applications for passports become a thing of past.
Once you enter a PSK for submitting your application, you will be out of it within 45 minutes. After the application is accepted, it will be forwarded to concerned district police headquarters for verification. The current police verification process is undergoing change. Now police cannot just say the applicant is not there. The future expected growth is around 18 per cent per annum with passport demand reaching over one crore by 2011.
What is the scenario in your country? Do you have to wait long or bribe? Do you have your pass port ready? Where are you planning to go?
Friends, please comment your views on this.
Happy posting, cheers, have a great day.

I dont know anything about passports I dont plan on going out of the states.
and I havent talked to any one that had to get one to travel some where else.
When I went to Canada and Mexico all we had to do was show our drivers licence now I hear we have to have a passport to go to these countries.
I might find out soon tho for SIL might have to go to MExico for his company.
He installs slot machines into the casinos and seems like they have 2600 to put in somewhere in MExico and they have said if he goes he will need a passport.
Ut teh company will have ot get it for him for he cant afford to pay for one!

Professor! I am also in your country and my son has had a bad experience with this stupid passport police verification system.Three of us applied along with him and my husabnd and I had no problem. But the policeman just created trouble because the bribe was not what he expected. My son's papers got stuck in Ahmedabad station when he was a student there and the second time he applied , they gave some far fetched story and gave as much trouble as they could. FInally, after coming here he applied again and got it after some 4 years.
Let us hope yours goes smoothly.

hello professor,
i have heard, passports takes a month to process. the country is now on a computerized new system ( i dont know why they call it new).
i dont think bribing here would make it faster. its just the system now. and the cost have gone higher, from Php500 to Php1,500 now.
you have very nice destinations for your vacation. i hope you both enjoy it.
cheers,
ann

Wow that's a good place to go. I love the nature. There are some places that I like but majority of it I don't. It's too polluted there. Haha.

I have had an Australian Passport since 1965, and have never had a problem, as I have renewed it when required. However, there is never the question of bribing for a passport, and the whole procedure is completed through the local post office. The photo is even taken there, when the application is done. I don't know how long the process takes, but the passport is eventually collected at the local post office,or it can be mailed out if you want. Simple really!

Good luck to your wife getting her passport for your trip. In my home country they now have a personal interview at a passport office for a first passport for an adult. I have always had a passport in validity since I was fourteen years old. I renew my passport at least six months before it expires. To get a passport for my children I had to fill out an application form, submit the photos and get a signatory on the form from a professional person. A child's passport lasts for five years and an adults passport lasts ten years. I got the post office to check and send my applications for my children's passports. Brides don't tend to occur in my home country. It takes about three weeks to get a passport so it pays to get in in advance of a trip overseas.

Hi professor I think here in the US its fairly easy to get passports. I have not ever experienced this as I never get the chance to travel out of the US because of money shortage. I would like to get a passport just to be able to have a second form of identification. I am not planning on
going anywhere but would love to get out of this tiresome retirement center into an apartment. that would be so very good. good luck and if you get here to the US and can make it pass by here Garden grove ca. would love to meet you. cheers.

I have a valid passport and I got it 3 years ago. In my country bribery is not a problem, and when you have handed in the papers it doesn't take that long to get your passport, but the rules about the pictures are very complicated and very strict. In the past we had to go to the police office to get a passport, but they recently changed the rules and now we have to go to a different office.
When you go to get your passport you need to bring a picture, but my picture wasn't good enough, and the staff at the office told me that the rules have become very strict and that half of pictures that people bring don't get accepted. I asked a photographer to take a picture of me, he knew all the rules, and when I returned to the cffice my picture was accepted.

This is real good news sir. this will definitely boost people to go for making passport. Hope this system will force police stations to process the applications without waiting for bribe. I got my passport in 4 months and did not pay any bribe to the police or the office.
Wish you a great journey.
