Yesterday on the television news the weather men have predicted Monsoon showers to begin in the south India in 3 days time which means on the 30th or 31st of this month. This is as per schedule. It is amazing how they come on time every single year. The first showers enter Kerala and then move inwards in a couple of days and Mangalore where I live is on the Kerala - Karnatake border and the monsoon showers begin here 4-5 days after it reaches Kerala.
There is an expectancy each year as we look forward to the blessed showers that bring hope, joy and a great relief from the sweltering heat of the past months. It is the same each year as we wait for the Monsoon showers ...the whole land scape changes and the streets ,plants, trees, tiled roofs have the washed clean look all through those months. Monsoons are very heavy here and Mangalore records one of the highest rain falls in the world. But we never seem to get fed up of this great miracle by the nature and wait for it with intense longing year after year...

Yes Kerala is the first state to receive monsoon rains and then spreads to Karnataka.Mangalore in Karnataka is on the border and receives the monsoon rains before other places. I am sorry that Chennai has deficit rain fall. But it does rain later in the year doesnt it? and sometimes it rains very heavily..

Yes Kiran, Monsoon is the real and highest form of blessing of Nature for mankind! At my place in Orissa, Monsoon breaks normally in the second week of June. But it seems that it may start some days earlier as the atmospheric conditions are observed! Rains has started here now with sudden wind as the effect of recent depression, but real Monsoon pattern of rains is yet to start in another week perhaps! Let's hope for a better Monsoon this year everywhere for the prosperity of all!
Thanks for this nice discussion and have nice Monsoon showers ahead in next months!!

Hi Mitraa, Yes I too feel that this year the monsoon will set in a few days earlier than usual. It has already started raining here since this evening and it looks almost like the pre monsoon showers. When it actually sets in it rains non stop and very heavily for at least a week until the rivers and wells are filled with water and the fields are flooded...

Hi Kiran! Just now I was writing to you about the monsoon showers . How wonderful it si to have our monssons commence? It is so hot and humid here and there is no servant at present. This just adds to our misery because we sweat it out like GOd knows what. DIL, is fine .From your descrition I gather Mangaore is a lovely green place.Do you have a garden in your house? Or is flat system getting popular here too--GOd forbid!

I know kala, just waiting for monsoon showers to begin, the heat here is unbearable and added to that is the power cuts...Yesterday we had no power for the whole day and I decided to do some gardening in my home so that I am outdoors and doing something worth while instead of sitting and fuming at the electricity board the government - anybody I can think of LOL....Mangalore is a very green place filled with coconut palms and fields right in the centre of the city..A picture that I took recently of my garden, it is the corner of my backyard , a bit over grown and untidy...
Kala, i am unable to upload the picture, tried several times...will send some pics of my garden by mail...Have a nice weekend

Hi Kiran,
I hope you got enough rain by the time. There was heavy rain in Kerala in the second week of June. The rain collapsed many of our programs and finally I cancelled my visit to many places. But the weather become cool and pleasant and got a great relief from the hot. When I back to this place, here the temperature was 46 and I faced much trouble. Still there is no rain in this place except some slight rain fall which adds the humidity. We are waiting for the rain still…..

Hi Sreekala, sorry for the delayed response By now we have had more than enough rains and Mangalore is flooded, with all the rivers and streams flowing above danger levels and also over the bridges cutting off smaller towns and villages. The weather is cool and wonderful for us who have no problems like the ones faced in low lying areas..all the best, have a nice evening

Oh yes, Kiran, not only you but I think the entire country is looking forward to some badly needed monsoon showers…Calcutta is like a pressure cooker for the past few days…so hot and so humid you just cant imagine! I’ve read in the papers that the monsoons are on time in Kerala and I really hope it visits us soon…BTW, Kerala looks so beautiful and green in the monsoons, is Mangalore so very green too?

I know sudipta, it has been such a hot summer. The worst in years. Monsoon showers were supposed to reach Mangalore on the 1st but till today no sign of any rains nor any gathering of clouds.Looks like it will take a couple of more days.I am surprised that though it is supposed to be raining in Kerala why has it not reached here.Generally we get rains after 2-3 days.Everything including weather patteren seems to be going haywire these days.
Mangalore is a lush and green place , like Keral or even better than kerala, because it is made up of many hillocks and has sea on one side and many rivers flowing through it and Western ghats on the other side..

Hi ganesh, I dont think it is monsoon rains , more likely the effect of depression that is there in Bay of Bengal. Monsoon rains have still not come to the state. They are hovering over Kerala and are expected to reach here any time now...I too heard that the weather in Bangalore is lovely - all the best and happy mylotting

Hey,
Yes we need Rain god to show some mercy and pour heavily. Not so heavily like it did in 2005 in Mumbai but we need lots of rain definitely.
Its the most hottest year ever in India and in the afternoon its unbearable. I have plans to go to Gujrat and i postponed till it rains there. Its almost 47 degrees in Gujrat and definitely a NO NO when u have to travel a lot there , he he
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi tutul, I know that North is facing terrible weather conditions. In Delhi it is touching 45 degrees and beyond and in Rajasthan I heard it is nearly 49 degrees . We grumble here when it touches 35 degrees...I am sure in another 2 - 3 weeks the entire country would be receiving rain fall which would be such a blessing...Thanks for your response and have a great weekend

This year we experienced a very hot summer. In some places Mercury hit the 49 degree Celsius. Kerala is the first place from when monsoon arrives. It good to know that with a week Monsoon will start. But it it is also predicted that monsoon movement will be relatively slow this year and normal rain is expected this year.
It will be nice change from this hot climate. So it will be cool after few days.

Yes as you say rains are expected soon and I heard that it has already started raining in Andamans which is actually the first Indian state to get Monsoon showers after which it touches Kerala and then slowly spreads all over the southern states and moves northwards...what a wonderful thing to happen like clock work each year without fail. If at all it does fail and there is deficit then it is we humans who are to be blamed ...all the best and have a great week...

We too, here in North India are waiting for monsoons to get respite from heat. It did rain a little, however it has become very humid. We would need more rains for more relief.

This is really strange. All are happening for the solar system. Our planet is moving round the sun and itself it is moving like a top. No irregularity in this system. Our weather is changing because of the distance of the Sun is changing in regular process. I know all these you know better than me. Really the whole system of the Universe is a miracle. There is a Bangla song like this: 'I'm asking to myself where had I been and where I would go? If I think I'm not alone then it's wrong and only
wrong......'. Good Luck.

Hi bhanu, Honestly I dont know much about it. What one can sense is nature all around us that is controlling and keeping the balance . Weather is one of the many miracles that we witness day after day and season after season.I agree with you about the distance of the sun and its effect on the earth.- all the best bhanu and happy mylotting

Kiran8!I am too excitedly waiting for the monsson rains.it will change the whole face of the earth and people's mentality too.The hot Sun shrinks our face while rain brings a charming smile. It is really an amazing fact about the mother nature, maintaining the circle of seasons.

You have put it so well ganesh . It is true that we are much more amicable during monsoon because we feel good physically which reflects in our mental attitude too..It really is amazing when you think that nature only gives and never expects anything back...

Hi Kiran, the whole of India is like a furnace now with the northern cities like Delhi, Jaipur and Lucknow reaching as high as 50 degrees. That is extremely high and oine wionders if this is what the scientists say about global warming. Monsoon showers are being awaited with great anticipation all over the place. Here, where I live the heat is unbearable .There has not been a single drop of rain since the last month or two and monsoon showers would make life not only easier but would bring immense joy to everyone...all the best :))
