There is a mother who is working in a local government unit as a treasurer. One day, her daughter in law and her newly born baby who was suffered from heavy illness was confine in the hospital and needed for an emergency medication. Both of the patients stay for more than 3 weeks in the hospital. And when they are about to go out in the hospital, it was two days before Christmas day come, they found out that they need to pay a big amount of hospital bill. Her son, which is the husband and the father of the two patients has nothing to do because he is just earning a low salary rate in his job. So the mother who owned the obligation of his son decided to borrow the money she was holding as her cash on hand that time. To make the story short, she was now facing a debt that needs to pay. The commission on audit learned already what she has done and they sent her a demand letter to settle her obligation as soon as possible.
So, if you are in the place of this mother will you do the same of what she did just to give the help and support her son needed? Or you will just ignore him and let him find his way to solve his problem?

Do you mean she took the money from her place of work? As treasurer she has acess to the money, but that does not mean that she has the right to take it for her own personal use. Yes it is sad that she needed to pay a hospital bill, but that is what health insurance is for right??? If she could not be bothered to get health insurance, then she should not have been surprised when she had this bill to pay- I am sure the hospital would have accepted payment in installments considering the hgih bill and the time of year without her stealing it- which she essentially did, regardless of whether she was going to put it back again or not.
She could have gotten the moiney from elsewhere, a loan or lending it frmo a family member or friend. The hospital had already treated the daughter in law and the baby, and were not demanding payment before they did anything medical for them- and she could have thought of another way to pay. She stole from the GOvernment and essentially any tax payers in your country.
It is right she has to pay the debt, and I am surprised she has not been locked up and fired for this offence! If I was her boss, she would have been fired on the spot and I would have called the police too!

oh thanks so much for the nice comment. But you don't answer my question, if you are in the the place of this mother, are you going to take the risk of what she did? yes sure she knows the consequences of what she did but that time she was lack of knowledge in what things she must do, it's already Christmas day no office are open on the holidays, no health insurance and benefits and no one can turn to ask for help.

i understand the mother for doing what she did for her daughter in law and grandchild. As a mother, one could do things which under ordinary circumstances you don't ordinarily do. However, using the government money entrusted in her care, to help her family pay for the medical bills, is simply unethical and outright stealing!
this is to say, that if i were in her place, i would not do what she did. i will find other source of funds, but not the money entrusted to me for safekeeping. as a government employee, one has a duty towards the people you serve, and it does not mean that you have the right to use the money whenever you feel like it, no matter how exigent it may seem.. except maybe if my family is held at gunpoint, and the only thing that would save them is for me to use the money entrusted to me as a treasurer, would i then do what needs to be done..i will use the money of course, but that's another scenario of course.

Taking cash from office is noting but crime. No employee can take the money for own use. The situation of the mother was worse. But it must not make her dishonest. She had to meet the bill from other sources, like, borrowing money from friends, office fellows, withdrawing from office fund legally. Her blunder of non-insurance should the be the cause of dishonesty. Every office faiths its employees. The offices are running on the belief of Good faith. But the mother's activity is against the custom.

I guess if i would be in her shoe, i would ask for help from my relatives first, or submit an emergency loan perhaps. That would be the last thing on my mind, because you don't only put your job on the line, but also your family. Tendency is, she could her job and that would affect her whole family. I would certainly help my son but not to the extent that it will put me and everyone else in trouble. There is always a way, if she got that position, i'm sure she has good friends or relatives that could help her, or even sell a property is an option.
