it differs with countries and cultures. And it varies from ages too.In our grandpas period the age difference was more than ten years even and in our father's period, less than ten years was the gap.In our set,3 to 5 year gap is normal and in the upcoming generation, people marry at equal ages and sometimes the girls are older than the boys. So,it depends on the mentality of the youngsters of all ages.

i know here in the state if you are over 21 you dont date someone who's under 18.
my rule is if she young enough to be my daughter i wouldnt date them. i dont see how any man could date someone way younger then him. to me its like dating a girl not a woman.
if my daughter would start dating a guy as old as me, i think i would have issues with it, and i would ask him why is he dating someone young enough to be his daughter and ask cant you get a woman your age.
to me the issue with dating someone younger, they will want to start acting like they are the younger person mother or father.
i know people who is dating younger people and i see this all the time.
so the rule of thumb is if she's young enough to be your daughter leave her alone, and get yourself a woman your age.

I am in the US and here it depends on the State you live in as far as what is legal which in my State it is: 16 is the age of consent as long as there is not more than a 5 year difference. As far as what is acceptable aside from the legal standpoint almost everything is acceptable age wise although there does tend to be more favor towards older men with younger women then vice-versa. I have 12 years between me and my older husband and noone bats an eye. Hope that helps.

Here in the UK, someone has to be 16 to sleep with someone. You can also get married at 16 with parents' permission and 18 without needing your parents' permission. I would not be happy if my 16 year old daughter was going out with a man of 20 or so though. As for age differences, I think this becomes less important as you get older. I was born in 1969, my husband in 1975 so at the moment, we are 40 and 35 and that is fine, no-one even notices. But if we had been going out when I was 20 and he was 15, a lot of people would have thought it was wrong.
