Have you ever interpreted your dream or someone elses? Or, have you ever had your dream interpreted by someone? I once told a friend that I often dream that I am in a murky body of water and that I feel that something in the water is out to get me so I swim and swim. She said that I'm afraid of the unknown (like the future) and try my best to avoid it or not deal with it. Sometimes, I think she's right.

I read from dream experts (made up of psychologists and psychiatrists)featured in a readers digest issue that dreams are often mind mechanisms derived from the subconscious preparing the conscious mind to a course of action for a particular event or stimuli. Dreams connect a past experience with a present possibility. For instance, you may dream of a place you have once visited and there you suddenly see yourself able to fly! The dream experts say that the dreamer is the best interpreter of his dream--because he can best connect his past, present, and future. There you have it---scientific and systematic.

Wow, lowlycook (Aww, why'd you call yourself that? I think cooks are artists and certainly not lowly!), thanks for the insight! That explains a whole lot of things to me! (I'm one person who relishes her dreams, and tries so hard to interpret her dreams.)
Thanks for the insight, and happy lotting!

One day I saw Under Siege and Steven Segal told the sexy dancer, "I'm just a lowly, lowly cook." Since then, I've been using the name. Glad to know the info I posted helps you.

Yes, people have tried to interpret my dreams. I've always laughed at the crazy stuff they've come up with. Personally, I don't think that dreams have interpretations. They can be a reflection of your mind and what you personally are going through, but only you will be able to find out what it means. Say I have a dream about my Mom confessing she has an older son to me and my two sisters via Twitter. Then a horde of zombie takes over our cruise ship. (By the way, my Mom doesn't have Twitter or a son... and I only have one sister. None of us have a cruise ship.) Can you interpret that? Can anyone interpret that? This is an actual dream that I had, does it have a symbolic meaning? How about the one where my youth minister is wearing a glowing bear suit?
My point is that I don't believe that dreams always have symbolic meanings or interpretations. In fact, I think the majority of the time there's just your own head making up strange stuff to keep itself entertained.

Wow, you dreamt all that? Well, maybe dreams are ways of (our brains) showing us what it would be like if things were..twisted or weird. Hmmm... Thanks for your insight!
