Writers and Owning a Website

I think being a writer today becomes more fulfilling when you own your own website. A writer must have his articles published. Otherwise, the sense of fulfillment won't be there. However, getting your works (books, articles) published is a formidable task--unless you're connected with a publisher--like I am. But with the Internet, you can have all your works (articles, photos, videos, etc.) published and read by the whole world if you post them on your own website! And you may monetize it, too, like what I'm doing with my website!

I agree. I am not a writer but I am a wild reader. For a writers point of view, it is really a fulfillment if you own a website and have a lot of followers. It's different even you have published your books, internet makes the world smaller and you can express anything you want without critics. Me myself would want to have my own website. Without any specific genre. Just for the sake of scribbling down anything under the sun. My opinions, my thoughts. Not necessarily articles that make sense. I just want a portal where i can express myself and let the world read it.

There's this blog about how a girl had been living in a car for years. It's not expertly written and you won't get useful info from it. The girl just wrote what she experienced---and it won awards and has thousands of members. It was featured in Readers Digest! I forgot the name of the blog, but it's with blogger. I hope you start that website soon, Joyce!

Hi Singlemommy! I'd appreciate it if you dropped by there. It's got lots of varieties. I'm planing to also feature a page there about the mysteries and strange, unexplainable things I have encountered in my life or experiences of people I know. I'll create a page about it soon. I'll title it "Life Mysteries." Thanks!

While creating a website is a good idea, as a writer, I am trying to make the most money I can and thus I write for sites like Associated Content, Helium, Gather, and others. I have a blog, but I could never make as much money writing for my blog as I do for these other sites. Maybe if you are a fiction writer, this may be true, but the one thing that other writing sites have is a built-in audience. With developing your own site, you have to attract and keep your audience. There are so many writing sites, blogs, and other places to publish that the lone writer can have a real challenge on his hands. I am not trying to discourage you, just see what you think about what I am saying regarding my own experience. Good luck with your writing!

Sorry I can't figure out how to make things work on the MyLot profile page. Here is my blog on books: http://readingandreviewing.blogspot.com/ I started it because I do a lot of book reviews for different sites, and I wanted to have them all in one place. With the new blog I'd like to set up (on travel), it's the same concept, but I think I would execute the idea in a completely different way. Thanks for having a look. What is your blog about?

It's nice to meet you. I am looking for writers here in MyLot to add as friends and share writing ideas with. I also write to AC, Triond and now, Bukisa. I also own a website AND Blog. You can see my links on my profile page. I agree with you about taking advantage of the Internet for writing and money making opportunities. I also use the social networks for promoting my articles and stories. It's all very satisfying and I hope one day soon to create an ebook. If you are interested in being friends with me at some of these sites, I am often found there as Leafygreens or Leafygreens08. See you there!

Nice to meet you, Befor becoming writer I'm journalist. But i think owning web site then publishing content for this site, is more diffrent then any other freelance writing. As a freelance writer you can write any thing as demand. But building web site content figure your own ideas, strategy and goals.
