Do I spend too much time on the web? I'm sick of this question!

I mean, the web has basically replaced encyclopedias, dictionaries, newspapers, or any other form of information media. So am I sick of the web? You're crazy, I'm on the web because it's much easier to look up a phone # up on the internet than in the phone book. So you stick to your Yellowpages & your newspapers & I'll continue to use the fastest, most efficient information technology at hand.

I spend more than eight hours on the web because I have an online job. You're right. It's much easier to look things up on the web. It would be illogical to stick to the old methods of looking for information (going to the library, buying newspapers, using phone books) if you could make use of the Internet.

Oops! I meant more than eight hours per day, six days a week.

hi rules1 I am sick of that too as the web has made life a lot easier in so many ways. no we spend the time we need to find 'what we need in half the time. So lets make more discussions about how great the web is and how its simplified a lot of things in our lives.technology is here to stay so those who carp at us get a life or get on the net and quit fussing at us please with sugar and cream on it as the kids used to say a zillion years back, I love my net so live with it or go do something else and do not bug me anymore about spending too much time on the internet as its not any of your beeswax. he he he.

The answer is different for different people. If being online is interfering with other aspects of your life, if you become anxious and depressed when away from computers, if you neglect your family and friends, or your personal hygiene, or if you use the internet as an escape, then it is too much time. Most people do not spend too much time on the internet. If it enhances your life and makes things easier for you, then go for it.

A virtual library at my fingertips. Yea, I don't see that as a bad thing. I guess the poorly read might have reason to ask that question ( they can't think of anything better ).

Yeah... Me too.. I believe that today, we can do almost all things just by visiting the web.. We can even go to different place, experience different things and learn because of the web.. :D

I think the real problem arises when someone spends more time on the internet than they do with their family...If the internet becomes the most important/time consuming thing in your life, it's time for a change.

roleez1, I feel that this is a question we cannot not ask ourselves every now and then. Because this is not a impractical or irrelevant question, but a concerning question. Don't get me wrong that I am not supportive of the worldwide web, efficiency and the abundance of information. However, as you know about being imbalance and over reliance I feel that we need to remember how to return to paperbacks and the traditional method of getting information. There were times when I see people feeling out of sorts or lost when they could not access the internet. It is like driving to a destination where you usually use the fast highways and once there's a major traffic problem, we just do not know how to go about navigating alternate roads and avenues to our destinations and goals. It may be consuming but at least the job still gets done. There will always be times when such access will be unavailable where we will need to fall back onto traditional ways.

Yeh i agree. People who ask this question seem to think the web is just some kind of toy where you can play games and waste your time. But of course it isn't, it makes live easier and in fact gives you more time, your phonebook being an excellent example :) why spend ages flicking through hundreds of pages when you can just scroll down your computer screen

Welcome to the club. I don't care if people think of me as a computer nerd with no social life. But think of the coolest thing that we got from the net. There's nothing that we can't find. It's a lot faster than asking your friends about something or read on the guide book, you simply can learn anything without signing on a class.Which saves a lot of money of course.
