My friend who's very smart, swears that this oil spill will lead to mass extinction for humanity. I told her I didn't believe this, because Mother Earth is one tough chick in my opinion. However, today I watched the oil spill live at http://globalwarming.house.gov/spillcam. Now, I'm beginning to wonder. Is this the end of us? What do you think?

I don't think it will be the mass extinction of humanity but I think that alot of the marine and sea life will be dramatically impacted if not irradicated because of it. It's really very sad when you think about it.
I think it will impact the seafood that people enjoy, hopefully that sealife won't become extinct or be fundamentally changed on a genetic level. Humans just seem to kill all of the beautiful things in the world with all of our machines, technology, etc. I think some conservation efforts need to be implemented immediately.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Hi cripfemme. I don't believe the oil spill is going to lead to the extinction of mankind but it may lead to the extinction of some delicate sealife like the gulf shrimp and scallops. Since so much of the seafood that we eat comes from there it's going to be a terrible loss.

Cripfemme! It's been a long time! Glad to "see" you again!
I doubt that this is going to be the end of us. It will seriously impact a number of species, including the Gulf Coast's human inhabitants. It will be many years before its impact can be fully understood. But we will survive and prevail.
Maybe more people will finally recognize the need for sustainable energy sources and an end to the reliance we have on fossil fuels...

Well, if you don't do anything about it, and about every other bad thing we've done to the environment, it would surely spell the end of us - the whole of life on earth, as we know it. But, there's still a chance...There's still hope...

my opinion for this is we will sure be extinct but not now.. because we are not taking good care of our earth.. we all know that there are a lot of sings that earth will end like floods, earthquakes, tsunami, climate change, and more so even though we start now by telling everyone to give important to our world we can change the earth for the better
