I think that they are forever putting the price up for school uniform and the cost of the school uniforn is well over priced. When a child starts a new school there are soo many bits of uniforms you have to get aswell as the normal things that they have to take.

My daughters school for the lower grades, K-6 she had a uniform, I loved it. Then after that, regular clothes and the school she goes to has a lot of higher income families so I hear I need this I need that... I miss uniforms.

My son's school has a uniform policy. The shirts you have to buy from the school for $10 a piece. They are polo shirts with the school logo embroidered on them. The pant I get for around $10-15 a pair. I like the uniform for the most part because it is easier for him to get dressed in the morning because he does not have to worry about what he is going to wear and it makes mornings go a little smoother.

The price of uniforms are not over priced for me anyway. It is the sweaters and jackets where they get you where I am concerned. I mean paying ten dollars for shorts, shirts, skorts, and pants I am okay with. Paying forty -fifty dollars for the jackets and sweaters kills me. But I have to say they do last longer than regular clothing.

Here in South Africa all schools have uniforms and prices varies but where we live the local school wear a tracksuite and shorts and golf t-shirt as their main uniform and my wife and I actually make them for the school but the main problem we find is the material prices keep going up and that does not help us, we have a price increase once a year maximum 2.5% but there is very little profit in it for us thats why i make my living on the internet with my website and various sites I am on.

I know that all the children look smart aswell as tidy in uniform, but i feel really sorry for the parents aswell as the children that can not afford to buy the school uniform as there are alot of people out there that are trying to make ends meet with out having to keep paying for uniform for schools.

Yeah uniforms are well overpriced as they are like a entry to a school...but considering that in many other countries you dont need uniforms but books which brand new are alot more expensive and you have to buy them every year....but yeah uniforms pirce has gone up which is frustrating.

I think that the uniform is a rip off as they are expensive for all ages aswell as all sizes of children.I know there are alot of places that you have to pay for their books and in the last years of my daughters schooling i had to pay for loads of things for her exams aswell as other things.

The school I worked at earlier (my kids attended the same school) had a uniform with the emblem of the school sewn in. And we had to get the ones from school which were very expensive. The pattern of the uniform changed 3 times in the 6 years we were there. What I would do is buy the first set, remove the emblem at the end of the year and get more sets stitched outside (at a lower cost) for the next year. But the school management got smarter and kept changing the uniform pattern once in two years so that parents would be forced to buy from them.

When my daughters were in private school, the uniform was just a school polo shirt and they could wear it over their own skirts, trousers, shorts, etc. Pretty easy. In public school they don't have uniforms, so they wear pretty much the same things that they wear around the house. They can't have their skirts or shorts too short, certain types of tops or shoes, but for the most part, it's just their normal stuff.

Uniforms are actually make life easier for me. I am in college and I am in a uniform-required school and it saves me from the hassle of worrying what to wear. We go to school to learn, not to talk about that latest handbag is all, don't you think? :)

I agree and most of them are rather ugly so you have to almost force your poor child to wear them! And I have found that many are only made of polyester which is terrible for the child to wear as they are hot and uncomfortable even tho they are easy to wash. Not sure if it's cheaper to buy the uniforms or a whole fall wardrobe tho. Take care!!

Hi Jugs,
Before when i was a kid, my mom just take me to oour neigbor who sew dresses and uniforms to do my uniform. that lasted for 10 years--from my kindegarten years to reaching 4th year highschool. but when i reached college i was wondering why i can't do it with our neighbor to make my uniform. The school sell the uniforms for us and we can't find the cloth in the market. it is exclusive in our univiersity. so, it was of course charged much...expensive as it's exclusive only for the school. we don't have any choice but to buy it there.
Now with my kids, i find it just fine as the school is so conscious about the parents financial status. i appreciate it and we are lucky for making our kids enrolled in this school!
Yes...there are lots of school charging much when it comes to uniforms.

Hello recently my son joined a new job in Hyderabad India, so my grand daughters had to take admission in a convent school there, we had to buy uniforms, books, note books, even covers from the school, that was compulsory
The weired thing is, we had to pay almost 40% more than the price outside..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.

Yes, it is ridiculously expensive. I am all in favour of compulsory school uniforms but I think they should make them cheaper and easier to afford. I have four children, so it has always been expensive to buy uniforms. Now I only have one child who needs school uniform (as the others have left school or are in Sixth Form), so it is not so bad, but the school is changing its name and uniform soon, so we have to start from scratch again, in time for the new term starting in next September!

I agree with you. I don't think the school uniforms have good quality and design, and it is not worth its price. In fact I disagree that students have to wear the school uniforms. Because I think it is important for the students to have their own characters.

I never wore a uniform to class. I hear that girls become more competitive in science and math and care less about boys and more about academics when they wear uniforms. I think they are great. It makes everyone equal and the rich kids can't pick on the poor kids.

I do see that the prices for the "official" school uniforms are quite high. However, after my daughter has been in public school that has a strict dress code, I am actually finding that I am quite in favor of uniforms for school. I don't think that there should be really specific things that children should have to wear for a specific school unless it is a private school.
If all schools would go to polo shirts and black/khaki/navy bottoms I think it will be easier for children that go to school.

Yes they are as I've found out too. And schools are making it increasingly difficult to get them elsewhere but from the designated tailors themselves.
