hi myLotters! i am having this problem to what should i prepare for breakfast to my diabetic parents who sleeps in my place tonight. Buying food outside is not possible since it's already late and i do not have time. The only options for me to prepare is a chicken pasta and mashed potato. Do you guys think that it's good for them since they have diabetes?

I am diabetic and pasta is ok once in awhile but blood sugar needs to be monitored and adding another carbohydrate on top of it is a no-no. The chicken is fine with the potatoes or with the pasta but not with both.

Pasta, rice and potatoes are not good for diabetics. The starch turns into sugar which of course is not good for a diabetic. They should not be eating any of these foods, if need be once a week in moderation.

My mom is a diabetic and tho carbs can raise her blood sugar, they are still healthy foods. She just has to watch how much she eats of it. A small bowl of pasta is fine, it's when she eats two bowls that her levels go up too high. Your parents should be monitoring their blood levels regularly and should already know which foods put a spike in their blood sugar and which don't and might be able to help you figure what's best for dinner. I'd go with the chicken and pasta and skip the potatoes. The meat will help off balance the pasta. It also depends on how the pasta is prepared. When I make cream sauces for my pasta, it's worse for my mother than a tomato sauce. I think also a big factor is what kind of diabetic are they? My mom is just borderline and doesn't need pills to help stabilize her so she's able to eat a little more sugary foods than most, as long as she eats small portions. Good luck.
