Do you keep track of your daily expenses?

I used to keep track of my daily expenses when I was studying in college, and also when I first started to work. But, as work became busier, and I became lazier, I just stopped keeping track of my expenses. It's really useful to keep track of the expenses, hence we'll know how much we exactly spend in a month or a week, where the money has gone to. It's good for saving money too.

Not really! Its very hard to monitor your expenses. What I do is I budget my money and set amount to spend for that day. If I need to spend $30 a day then it should be $30 or less but not to exceed.

We started living our lives on a very strict budget about eight months ago because we found that we were having difficulty with old credit card payments. In doing that, I started analyzing where every dollar that we spent was going. Since then I've been able to get our family income to a point that we are able to get a little bit ahead every month. Whereas this time last month we were pretty much sinking in debt, we are able to stay afloat this year, we may not be rich, but we aren't in nearly as bad of shape as we could have been in.

Hi kaka135! Unlike you, I never really kept track of my daily expenses when I was still a student. Most of the time my allowance will go to either food or school projects (though most of the time, food hahahaha) so I never really saved or spent something out of my school allowance. (Unlike my brother, who already bought a lot of cool gadgets out of his school allowance). Well, right now I just got accepted for the job and had my first pay last May 31 and I'm actually planning to keep track of my daily expenses when June starts. I think it will be a good training for me in the future, as I never really learned how to save. Things are different now, because as I work hard for my money, slowly, I am also learning how to save by preventing myself from spending unless for worthy reasons. :) But I know it takes a lot of commitment. I hope I can make it though. Hahahahahah ;p

I did that last year. I was in a financial problem that I really have to keep track of my expenses. I set a daily budget and I make sure I don't spend more than that limit.

It is really useful to keep track of your daily expenses, it actually helps you save lots of money when you realize how much you spend on things you don't really need. I used to keep track, but then I got bored and life is not that interesting when you are planning your every step. So, now I just know how much I need to put aside for fixed costs like rent, facilities and gas, and the rest is just for me to decide what I want to do at the moment.

I do keep track of daily expenses only if I am buying alot of things and need to keep under my budget. Usually at the beginning of the month I do this because I go out to pay bills and get afew things. If I go over a certain amount I am in trouble for the rest of the month. I also keep all my reciepts during a given month so I can check back if not sure of a certain charge on my checking account.

Well, it is lil' difficult for me to keep track of my daily expenses but I remember the total amount I spent each day. But I had made this a habit few months back, I will follow it in future too, at present days are lil' messy and don't have so much time to calculate each things I spent and hence sometimes, it is not good. I will keep track of it as t is always beneficial to track your daily expenses..

in fact i do keep track everytime i spend..the latest onw was yesterday when i went to a mall with my friends..i bought shoes and few other stuff but i also bring along my book which i wrote down all my expenses in it..it show the amount of money we had spend for a month or even a week..it is a good practise though because we can assure that we didn't spend to much money on something..

I too made records on my expenses regularly like yuo. But due to lack of time i gave up that habit. Basically it is good to keep notes on our expenses. then we can assess our monthly/weekly expense, manage or control it. and make planning of future expenses.

I also used to track my finances, particularly how much I am spending, but after a while, I already got tired of doing it for a daily basis. What I do now is just allocate budget and it must not go beyond it. What I do is to keep the savings intact regardless of what happen and allocate an emergency fund for which I can get in case I ran out of my budget. This allowed me to track my budget in an easier way, rather than spending an hour or so just to remember all my expenses in a day.

at the beginning of the month, I always make a note about my expenses in excel. days pass and I don't know how I forget updating it, even before reaching the mid-month. when I look back to my expense file, hehe.... half-blank in every page.

I do track my expenses because it allows me to see habits I am slipping into that are bad for my financial or physical health. In the past couple of years, since the economy has been so bad, I haven't had many expenses. I pay my bills and then try not to spend anything else except for food.

I absolutely agree with you. Why not try to use this online software called mint.com, and you know exactly where you stand financially. This software also remind you when you have to pay your bill. You can connect it to your cellphone.

I do not keep track of my daily spending. Because I don't buy to much while I'm out and about. I likes to save as much money as I can. If I do decide to spend money on lots of things that day. I keep a mentle note about everything that was bought and come up with a rough estament and then I have an idea of what my balance is going to be.

Oh yes I do! Ever since I started studying in a university and now that I'm working, I always try to keep a record of where my money goes. This way, I would be able to know how much I spend for certain items (food, gadgets, leisure, etc) and know if I'm spending too much.

I keep track on my budget, even when I was also in school. Now that I am working and have a job, I still check my daily expenses. That's also the reason why I didn't applied for any credit cards, because I want to handle the spending by myself depending on what I NEED or WANT for that particular moment. I value the money I earn from work, as well as the work that I get to earn my money at.:)
