Does anyone think that our way of life has become completly dependent on the internet? My daughter had some vocab words and she wanted to use my computer for so she could look them up, I said "Im using my computer right now why don't you use the dictionary?" She said "because it doesnt have the words Im looking up," She is in 4th grade, needless to say all the words were in there so then she said "I couldnt find them." and then it was "well at school my teacher doesnt make us use a dictionary, she says we'll always have access to a computer with internet." So I read her homework paper and at the bottom it said computer can be used for all homework assignments. I use my computer a lot mainly because I go to college online, but I still use my dictionary and such. Just shocked me thats all, they wont know what to do without a computer and the internet.

Haha.. to say we are too dependent, perhaps you are right. But it's not by our own choice that we are dependent on the internet. We are actually forced by the simple nature of evolution of technology and the passing of time. Believe it or not, to lead a life today even without just the computer seems to be something that's hard to achieve. No wonder we all are becoming the slaves for the machines, it is pretty ironic if you start to think who is the one that is in control, the humans? or the machines?

You know the elementary schools expect that the children have access to the internet at home. They assign research assignments with little time to find another way to give them access. And in kindergarten they have to know what a CPU is. How can they concept the idea of one?

Wow.. That's a big change to the syllabus. I never knew that it has become something like this, thanks for the info though. It seems like the syllabus that I used to went through have become something like an antique.

I agree with your statement Danielle, I also find it a bit weird as my nephew who is just nine years olds talks about Internet everytime when he has to do his homework, for me it is exaggeration, as the homework of a nine years old student can be done successfully without a computer too. Nowadays we are really dependent on the Internet or computer itself.

I agree all my kids talk about the internet when they are doing homework that and a calculator. They should be able to do simple math without a calculator or the computer.

There is a big difference between the children who grow up now and the children from my generation. There was no internet when I went to elementary school or high school. so looking things up online was never an option. I still have many of my old dictionaries and I often use them. Sometimes I try to find the answer online at first, but if I can't find the word I am looking for I prefer to use my oldfashioned dictionaries, and I plan on keeping them. There are many great things about the internet and a lot of things have become easier and faster, but I don't want to become too dependent on my computer and the internet.

It is true that we have become a lot dependant of computer. We can save a lot of time if we use computer instead of dictionary. Internet also provides the option to read more about the word other than the meaning that dictionary also gives. Internet gives the option to see many usages of a particular word and we can see blogs or forums regarding the usage of that word. We can also see the difference in the contexts of the usage of the particular word in different countries.

I do like how they have the option to hear the pronunciation of the word.

Hello friend!! Yes, you are right... students are becoming too much dependent on computer and INTERNET....They can find everything on it. Growing technology has upgraded schools as well and they also prefer that students use computer. No doubt, it is negative affect on kid's brain as they cannot imagine themselves without computer and Internet... what we can do... like calculations and other work.. they will be zero at their manual process... There are not gaining the real knowledge.. What they will do in future... will their brain grow as it was in past... no dear friend... not at all..as they are completely machine dependent... Schools need to firstly teach manual methods first and after that they should be allowed to use these technologies.. if someday all satellites will fail than...... what these students will do... just looking at each other's face...serious problem... Have nice time friend!! Take care!! Happy myLotting!!
