Eating just because it's there...

Do you have this problem too? I went grocery shopping today, and bought myself some low calorie bagels and fat free cream cheese.. haven't had that in forever and I thought it would be a good treat. Haven't had one yet, but they keep calling my name and I want to go eat one.. not because I'm hungry, but because it's there!! We had a cook out yesterday, and I have a ton of left over pasta salad, which I love!! It's made with mayo though, so it's high in fat and carbs.. not exactly healthy. But it's so good, and I want to eat it just because it's there. I've been pretty good about getting rid of temptations. When I had my birthday party I sent my left over cake home with a few guests, leaving none of it in the house. I also send away any cookies and candies I get.. or else I give them to the kids. Do you eat things just because they're there? Do you have any tips to avoid it?

I do eat things just because they are there. And it is bad, because I work in the restaurant and there are LOT of things that are just there. Tips to avoid it...just one, and its a crummy one, and an obvious one, and a difficult one, and that is practice self control. Told ya it was a crummy one. With Appreciation.

Yeah, my self control comes and goes in waves. Some days it's really strong, other days it's not. For some reason I have less self control when my hubby is around. The other day he came home from work and he mentioned the word Burger King.. half an hour later I'm chowing down on a Whopper with cheese... argggg!!

It is the consistency, small steps over time, and you can over come it...I thought they sold salads at Burger King now, or Veggie Burgers, you could have a Veggie Mushroom Whopper, with soya cheese...

I have that problem all the time! That is a lot of the reason I'm overweight to begin with. I love to eat. Especially things that are my favorite. Cake and desserts aren't usually my problem though. I'm a sucker for anything buttery and salty. My biggest issue is supper. If I make something I really like for supper I usually have the problem of eating too much because it tastes so good. Most things don't taste good reheated as leftovers later. So I can't stopped myself from eating a lot while it tastes good. I've been getting better at it but it's hard. I think the only thing that works for me is to just keep the tempting things out of the house. Growing up my mom didn't buy a lot of chips and cookies and stuff so I'm not used to having them around anyway.

I used to have that problem too.. not stopping until it was gone. That I've managed to control, thankfully.

If it's there and it's free, I have a hard time avoiding it. If it's at home, I'm usually pretty good, but free food at work or whatever is deadly.

No tips Kat. If it there then I will eat it. So it cannot be there for me. So stressed trying to finish work to leave next Monday. I went out and bought a cheese burger. No good but I don't think that I had had one since last year and it tasted wonderful and made me feel better. Blessings. Have to get back to work now

Nothing wrong with treating yourself once in awhile, as long as you get back on track afterwards!

My goodness, I have this problem, especially when I know there is chocolate in the house, I just have to have it xD I usually then go out or set my mind on something and distract myself. Or there is when I am already eating, and I am stuffed, I sometimes try to finish it just to save wasting or because I am enjoying it and end up making myself feel ill xD But yeah, just try and keep yourself focused on something else so your mind can't think of the food and you should be fine :)

me and my wife talks about food and what to buy and what to cook. my mother is half bodied paralyze for three years now because of high blood sugar and heart attack. it runs in our family. so my wife is very particular on what we eat and drink. we also have a four years old son that we need to feed as well. so we still have cookies at home chocolate drinks but for him. in my case since my wife is the one who cooks then i eat it because it is there but every once in a while we pig out too when we eat out.

Food !! wow i love eating .. even though i know i will put on a little weight with my eating habits most of the time it does not stop me from eating ... yes many times i have ended up eating only because it tastes good and it is there and needs to be finished or else it would spoil. thats when i become the dumping bag and try to finish the food .. i too try giving the food stuff away to relatives and friends after a party so that it does not loose its value and i dont become a dump bag.
