CDJ Vs. Vinyl Turntables

Okay, so. At the moment, I'm currently saving up for some new turntables to add to my dj gear collection and I was just wondering for those out in the disc jockeying community whether they like CDJ turntables or the ol' skool vinyl turntables? Vinyl turntables are definitely cheaper to buy but the price of vinyl is pretty high and you only get 2-3 songs per vinyl. But a work around is using Serato Scratch Live to emulate songs playing on control vinyl, but the program and set up costs a few hundred. Whereas CDJ turntables are expensive BUT they pay for themselves since most new CDJs have USB input as well as CD input which you can easily burn songs onto and mix. So what does everyone prefer/reckon is better? CDJ or Vinyl Turntables?

Turntables - Turntables for playing vinyl music records. Plays at varies speeds ususally 45rpm or 33.3rpm. The stylus on the arm reads the grooves on the record , so producing the sound.
I would opt for the vinyl decks for DJ'ing . Vastly more versatile the CD's. If you are a good DJ and can mix the bpm together then you should show your style. Using mixing software with CD's is just a con and does not always provide the best sounds. Most people could master a software program given alittle time, but very few can master the art of a good old fashioned record player, having to master the fader, treble, bass, etc is a fine art. I have tried to DJ just for fun and I know how hard it can be, so I fully admire anyone using there skill and not a computer. Keep on spinning...

Yes, well the ol' skool style of djing was surely great and I myself learnt from a DJ veteran. But since technology has moved on and carrying around vinyl isn't really practical when you need to go to gigs, carrying around CD's or even USB sticks if the player accepts it is even better and easier. I don't use any computer program to DJ often but I have used Serato Scratch Live in the past so that I could play my songs from the computer to the vinyl turntables. But yes, the art of djing is a hard skill :P

Im a Vinyl turntable user for 2 years and i would say that im comfortable using it. It would never hurt to learn a few things using new technology such as CDJs but im just not comfortable with it. just choose the equipments you are comfortable and confident with. Happy DJing!!

When choosing between these two, I would choose vinyl. I like vinyl better because of the sound quality is better than cd's and the feel of the vinyl is so much different than cdj's. Though if you want to carry lots of song around with you with minimal baggage than I would choose a cdj as you can keep more songs and a cd and more cds in the same space a record needs. Though if that doesn't bother you and money isn't too much of an obstacle than definitely vinyl.

Vinyls don't always have the best sound quality. The high end CDJs from Pioneer for example deliver great sound quality and you can scratch just on them just like real vinyl. The bad thing about a vinyl turntable, is that it can cause more problems than a CDJ because of dust or the needle being snapped or the record being warped. So thanks for your opinion but I'll stick with my CDJ's. :)

Don't really have a preference. They each have their pros and cons. A lot of it depends on what exactly you want to do with it.

i've been a vinyl turntable user for two years and i would say that it's easier to scratch with it than a CDJ, and about the songs is not a problem with the use of serato scratch live. the good thing about CDJs is the ability to apply effects into sounds with the touch of a button. Both are good, im just comfortable using Vinyl turntables than CDJs. Have a nice day.
