How much hour per day do you sleep??

I read today that instead of sleeping for 6 to 8 hours per day at night, we could also sleep for 20 minutes every 4 hours. This way of sleeping is much more effective. Our neurons works more. We would be able to memorize things more easily, and can even remember what we dreamt about for that 20 minutes sleep more easily. I've never tried it before, and I think most of us haven't as we all work or study on weekdays from 9 am to 7 pm. I'd love to try it this weekend, just stay at home at have small naps of 20 minutes for every 4 hours. What say you?? JOIN ME :-)

as much as i would want to, i would like to have 7-8 hours of sleep each day. However, due to the demands of life, work, family, and all, what i enjoy is basically around 6 hours of sleep each day. thank GOd, it is enough to keep me the whole day from 7-12mn, sometimes i even stay up late until 1 or 2am. Give me more sleep please! :)

Hi 1Cor 5 17: Thanks God I can sleep between seven or eight hours but sometimes I have a lot of things to do I can sleep for just six hours but it's really hard to me it's a big sacrifice I have to add because I can't recover myself of the things I've done the day before so I'm sure I'll have a hard day if i don't sleep well. Thanks for sharing with us your own experience on this subject. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

That's a funny thing, sleeping for 20minutes every 4 hours. The only thing that came to my mind is that's how people should eat, a little bit every 4 hours. That's what scientists say how the nomads stayed slim.
But for sleep for me, I don't see that happening. I'm too busy during the day and with my body, if I sleep, I sleep for hours. Making me wake up for 20 minutes would be torture.
But with society nowadays, being able to be successful with that would require a person with a certain lifestyle. There are environmental, physiological and neurological factors which play to make this work. The only type of people I know for a fact that can pull this off are babies. ;p
But yeah, anything is possible. Try it and tell us what you think. Who knows, you might open up a new healthy trend lifestyle for us who work too hard. Cheers!

If we compare our lifestyle to what they did years ago, we can actually ponder on how amazing it is that how time makes us change rapidly. Imagine yourself as nomads, and doing nothing but look for food or look after the vegetables we grow. Being able to not depend so much on the internet, or the television, or the microwave. Life is amazing, and mind boggling at times. At times, I wish I were born in the 40's :)

I believe my average sleep everyday is 5 hours, but it differ during Sunday. I can’t sleep normally during Sunday night. I can give in to sleep at 3am and I will be waking up as early as 6am. I’d love to try too but before I had done that in a day I totally forgot all about it because for everyday I am busy. I can do it every Sunday only since I am just at home. I want to try that for the reason that I believe sleeping is the only remedy to relax mind and I feel every waking hours of mine I abuse my mind because of stress.

The theory sounds good, however it's quite impossible or difficult for people who are always on the go.

Hi lil muchang: I think it sounds pretty interesting and it's a nice idea and maybe this would be right but I wonder if I really could sleep fopr 20 minutes every four hours not only because of my job but becaose I can't imagine myself sleeping just 20 minutes in the middle of the night. I think I won't wake up until the other day. Anyway. Thanks for the information. Thanks for starting this discussion. Have a nice day.

I usually sleep 6-8 hours a night. I do not see how sleeping for 20 minutes at a time would work. I don't think you would reach R.E.M sleep so you would never fully recharge.

I sleep too much, about 8-10 hours. Need to reduce them. Got any tricks to do that?

well i get around 4-5 hours a day so im under the recommended. But some days i get to sleep in so that`s good.Generally speaking most adults only get around 5-6 hours, depending on if they have a demanding job or kids this can greatly vary.

I pretty much only get 4 hours of sleep everyday. This sounds like it may work, but I also have two small children and I am a full time student. I barely have enough time as it is to get 4 hours of sleep. If I do manage to get the complete 4 hours of sleep, I consider myself very lucky. So, I wont be able to join you on this.

I absolutely cannot take small naps. I mean, once I am asleep, I am asleep. And it has to be from a certain time at night to a certain time in the morning. Any other time, and you can just really forget about sleeping. My attempts to sleep during the day, are mostly me trying but failing. Unless of course I am ill, then I drift in and out throughout the day. In between trips to the bathroom that is.
Still, I would have to say that six to eight hours seems to be a comfortable amount of time for me to sleep. It has to be done straight however. I doubt it could be done in increments. If I'm truly asleep, I will be out for several hours. If I am not asleep, Still, when my head hits the pillow for real, then I am out for that 6 to 8 hours. Otherwise, I'm not really sleeping.

My sleep during night is only about 3-4 hours then woke up early and go to work. Then get back home and get some sleep again before going to work. I only have a total of 5 hrs sleep in a day.
But with what you find out I think that would be very difficult in my case. Because I have the tendency to have difficulties in sleeping. Just like last night, I went to bed around 11pm but its already 2 am I am still awake I guess I already fell asleep maybe around 3am. I would really like to sleep longer and better. According to them is not about the quantity of time you sleep but its the quality of sleep you have.

my sleep is only 4-5 hours a day especially when we have school now, i couldn't sleep for too long. but that idea, i think i couldn't do it. i'll be irritated if i should wake up after 20 minutes. and it takes me 30 minutes before i could sleep, just by thinking of it, i know wouldn't survive that.

I sleep for six to eight. I'll be in low spirit if I sleep for less than five hours.
I had a classmate in senior school who only slept for 4 hours or less. I envy his energy. He was always the first in my class. I had to sleep much more than him, and I hadn't caught up him till we graduated.
