There was some debate on whether morality would be in it's current state if there were no religion.
Side One:
Religion has no effect on morality. A person chooses what they are going to do. Common sense has always been around. Most religions are based off of common sense. If there was no religion personal moral codes would still be the same. Folk tales teach the same rules, and they are rarely religious. The common sense was there before religion, and without it, the world would probably have less wars over the hate caused by religion. Religion teaches values such as not accepting others because of reasons beyond their control. It is not logical that religion adds to the moral capacity.
Side Two:
Religion has shaped morality. Even if unintentional morals are built on a framework of "right" and "wrong" that was created by someone.
Even with Atheists who believe their moral conduct is completely independent of religious structure. Somewhere in their line has been touched by the effects of religion. Those attitudes and morals were passed along as children mimicked their parents behaviors.
Without religion there would still be common sense, but religion is a control on the masses. Wide spread ideas on what is "right" and "wrong" that came from religion have shaped the moral codes that are lived by.
What are your opinions on how religion plays into morality?

When you say religion I assume you mean by G♥d and the Bible? If so, I would say yes, because the " Common sense has always been around" but where did that come from? How do we know that to steal from another is wrong? Because today in households where the don't teach this, children steal..Or if they are asked why they don't, they answer? "I don't steal because I don't want to get caught"
That's wrong, we shouldn't steal because G♥d says it's wrong, He said it first, not man because if man did, then why isn't he still saying it???

Religion influence the person to do good things. Religion promotes morality. Religion can keep a person from doing immoral. If you will notice that some law in our community or our country is came from religion. Example, in 10 commandment it says do not kill. Our country implement a law about killing. If a person killed someone it is against the law. Killing is against in the sight of many people and to the sight of our CREATOR. Some example is an adultery. Commiting an adultery is sin and it is against the law.
