Did you know Monty Python’s Life of Brian was voted 'Greatest British comedy film of all time' by several magazines and television networks and it was thanks to George Harrison that it came about because he apparently raised four million dollars so that the film could be finished...Why? Because he wanted to see it!

To say that I love the Monty Python movies is an understatement and I know I am not alone, does anyone remember Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
King of Swamp Castle: You only killed the bride's father, you know.
Sir Lancelot: Well, I didn't mean to.
King of Swamp Castle: Didn't mean to? You put your sword right through his head.
Sir Lancelot: Oh dear... is he all right?
And The Life of Brian:
The Crowd: The Messiah! The Messiah! Show us the Messiah!
Brian's mother: The who?
The Crowd: The Messiah!
Brian's mother: There's no Messiah in here. There's a mess all right, but no Messiah. Now go away!
Ex-Leper: Okay, sir, my final offer: half a shekel for an old ex-leper?
Brian: Did you say "ex-leper"?
Ex-Leper: That's right, sir, 16 years behind a veil and proud of it, sir.
Brian: Well, what happened?
Ex-Leper: Oh, cured, sir.
Brian: Cured?
Ex-Leper: Yes sir, bloody miracle, sir. Bless you!
Brian: Who cured you?
Ex-Leper: Jesus did, sir. I was hopping along, minding my own business, all of a sudden, up he comes, cures me! One minute I'm a leper with a trade, next minute my livelihood's gone. Not so much as a by-your-leave! "You're cured, mate." Bloody do-gooder.
Do you have a memorable Monty Python quote?

Yes it is isn't it? It is a song that a lot of people sing a lot of the time, absolute classic! It is definitely successful to create something that folks remember for years to come. Thanks for your contribution ellie, I appreciate it!

Like yourself I love Life Of Brian & I saw it when it was first released here in the UK at the cinema when I was still in school. but my most memorable ever Python sketch come from The Meaning Of Life & the sketch in question is....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-L3JMk7C1A
There is another sketch that is possibly the sickest scene ever put on film but once seen never forgotten....

I love the second sketch it’s hilarious, the waiter is great. John Cleese is brilliant, love him at the end! It is a rather ‘sick’ scene. (LOL) I definitely want to get hold of all four films, I would love to watch them all again. Thanks foe sharing those links Jaytech I enjoyed them!

I was not very impressed with any of the Monty Python films. The television programme of Monty Python was excellent, they were the first team ever to truly understand zany humour since the famous Goon Show on the radio.
The problem with the films was that they had to fill a much longer period, so there was too much padding, which is the time between the humorous parts. I feel that a single episode of Monty Python contained the same amour of humour as one of the films did, but it was much more of a rapid assault of humour leaping from sketch to sketch.

"It's just a flesh wound." That's my favorite.
My husband and I love those movies, too. We have them all on DVD and watch them when we're both feeling nostalgic and in the mood to watch a comedy.
I had no idea about George Harrison's raising so much money to get the film finished. Wow! Well, I guess that, if you have it, why not?
That's great news about Monty Python, too. Was this movie just recently voted the greatest British comedy film of all time? I totally agree!!!

I didn't know about George Harrison's involvement until I heard it on the radio. I can see how it would be the best comedy ever. I have seen the film many times and I still laugh! I don't know if The Life of Brian was recently voted but it still deserves the title in my view! Thanks mentalward!

Hi paula,
My sister introduced me to Monty Python a few years ago with Life of Brian. We saw it at her house as hse has all the DVDs. It was perfect that we saw it at home and not in a cinema because I laughed so much that every once in a while I had to ask her to stop the movie to pee (I had never laughed so much in any movie EVER).
I don´t have a favorite quote. I guess all the movie is too witty so it´s difficult to find a best liked part or quote. The stoning of the woamn was awesome and also "political" groups. No. I won´t say really what´s my favorite because I wight change my mind when I see it again. By the way, my sister(who lives in another city) lent me the movie to see it again about 2 years ago and I haven´t returned it yet.

Aren't you glad your sister introduced you to these hilarious films? I love them and have seen them a few times but don't actually own the DVDs, my birthday is coming up and I now know what to ask for! It is hard to choose a favourite and to remember all the funny quotes, there are just too many! Thanks for responding marguicha!
