Tonsillitis is caused by either a streptococcal or a viral infection. It is a painful inflammation of the tonsils and, depending on the type of infection, is either treated with antibiotics or the body is allowed to deal with the infection itself. In every case, the patient should drink plenty of fluids, take plenty of rest and an appropriate painkiller, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, may be given. It is usually difficult or painful to swallow, so you should try serving liquids and soft foods, like nutritious soups, milkshakes, smoothies, ice pops, or ice cream. Tonsillitis is very infectious, so drinking glasses and eating utensils should be kept separate, and washed in hot, soapy water. All family members should wash their hands frequently. After a bout of tonsillitis that's caused by strep bacteria, throw out your child's toothbrush and replace it with a new one.

Point of clarification, everyone has tonsils. What you mean is Ice cream causes tonsillitis, which is the inflammation of our tonsils. Ice cream can cause tonsillitis because it is a very good source of sugar, and sugar is food for bacteria. If a person has poor oral hygiene, there will be a bigger chance of having tonsillitis.

I love ice cream too. Any sweet food can cause tonsillitis, may it be chocolates, ice cream or any dessert. That is why you should brush your teeth and drink lots of water after you eat food that is very sweet. Because remaining sweet food irritates the throat and increases bacteria that is why a person may get tonsillitis after eating ice cream.
