For those who are not familiar with this, this season starts on 1 June 2010 and runs through 30 November 2010. This year they are predicting an above average hurricane season, perhaps one reminiscent of 2005's season.
You can find information about 2005's Atlantic hurricane season here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Atlantic_hurricane_season
This year they are predicting eight major (above Category 3) storms.
We have not evacuated for a hurricane yet. Most recently we were hit head-on by Ivan in 2004, and we got a bit of flooding downtown from Katrina in 2005.
Are you in range of these hurricanes? What are your plans and predictions?

We often get the heavy rains from a hurricane but very rarely are we truely affect by it. We have our generator ready and of course always have some extra food around the house. So no big changes to our normal lifestyle.
As for the prediction of the upcoming hurricane season, I am never really sure about it. Last year they said we were going to have an above average hurricane season and there were actually minimal number of storms that actually reached land. I think that since 2005 they always like to air on the side of caution so that there will not be as much life loss as was that year.

That sounds like us here. We have our generator (and a bit of spare gas), and quite a bit of extra canned food should something happen. We also have a good amount of pastas that we could heat outside on the grill if necessary. Within the past few years, we moved into a house that has gas heating (including a water heater), so at least we will not have cold showers anymore when we lose power.
Thank you for your response!

hi valenas I am so glad I do not live in hurricane areas or tornado areas. just live in earth quake area but am so used to the minor tremors it is okay what i dread are the wildfires we get plagues with each summer and fall horrendous the damage they do and most are arsonist
caused. sick is it not? i have no plans and for years we have been under this stuff about major earthquakes but am not going to worry now.
