that your children are fans of many of the same cartoons that you liked when you were a child? We have a cartoon channel here on our cable provider called Boomerang and most of the shows that they put on there are cartoons that are as old (or older) than I am. My daughter is at the age now that she has outgrown a lot of the programming that comes on Disney and Nick during the day, but she will watch Boomerang all day long. The shows on there really take me back. There is Scooby Doo and The Flintstones, The Jetsons and even Tom and Jerry. And, my children are huge fans of these shows just like I was when I was a little girl. Please share, do your children like some of the same cartoons that you liked when you were a child? What cartoons are these that they are fans of like you are?

yes! since there is a tv show called teletoon retro and it is playing bugs bunny, my 13 year old daughter and i have been watching a lot of bugs bunny. i loved bb growing up (some of them are older than i am! because they were made towards the end of WW2). she loves the show now as much as i did when i was growing up. we have watched the reruns for years and they never seem to get old.

That actually is another that my daughter really likes. My mother-in-law still has a VHS player and some of the tapes of Bugs Bunny that she still has from when her boys were little that my daughter always wants to watch when she is at their house.

Mostly not, they like Spongebob and the Avatar and the Fairly Odd Parents and a few other things that did not exist when I was a child.

I think you've in a sense brought up the reverse of what I've mentioned. As far as Spongebob Squarepants goes, my husband and I became fans of that because our children like it and we will all sit down together and watch it.

Before Kathryn was in school, Spongebob was actually the reason that she was late getting to the babysitter's house quite frequently because my husband would have to watch the entire episode before he would leave the house.

Spongebob Squarepants is pretty good actually. My 14 year old daughter likes it and I don't mind watching that one either as the characters are cute and the episodes are often funny.

My boys like all those super hero cartoons and shows that hubby used to watch, and they'll sometimes watch them together, like all the Batman cartoons and such. My 4 year old does like Scooby Doo.. but for the most part he's into the newest cartoon shows, like his favorite right now is Diego.

Now don't get me wrong, Paul also likes Diego and Dora and Yo Gabba Gabba and some of the others. But, every day he does ask that I let him watch Tom and Jerry as well.

Hi Doran, You are right. I kinda observed that too. All of us loves tom n gerry and almost all the disney characters. so, it's always fun watching with the kids as we (me and my hubby) enjoy the type of cartoon movies they love watching.

Later this month I will be taking my children to see Toy Story 3 at the theater. The funny thing is that I am looking forward to this as much (if not more) as the children are.

I can't wait. We were going to go on opening night, but now we are going to wait a bit longer so hopefully the theater isn't quite as crowded.

Yes, we all like Sooby Doo, but otherwise, not so much. My kids prefer more modern cartoons, whereas my favourite as a child was Hong Kong Phooey. I loved The Flintstones and Top Cat too and my kids have seen those a few times, but still prefer the modern ones like Phinneas and Ferb.

I don't think that my children really discern between the more modern cartoons and the older ones. They seem to like them all.

I think no .. I'm still young and I don't think my parents also loves my favorite cartoon characters because they were old enough for it and what I know is that when they were young there's no tv like that just a radio ..

I can definitely see where this would be the case if your parents weren't familiar with the cartoon characters that you are familiar with.

hi dorannmwin I dont think they had those way back in the thirties or ealy forties. but my children watched Kermit and MissPiggy and also Felix the cat, he was crazy about Felix the cat and Tom and Jerry. Mygod my son is 51 tomorrow, think of it I was having labor pains at noon on this day 51 years ago, and my water burst so called my doctor and he said g et a cab and come on in. well my little baby was a t ypical night owl. he was born June fifth at four thirty in the morning. and he has been a night owl ever since too. I was going to buy him a gift but he stopped by yesterday for help on the storage bill and there went my forty dollars but hey if he can get a job a nd accumulate money we will get our stuff out of storage and find an apartment.

Well, being able to help him pay the storage bill for your stuff is a great thing. This year I turned 30 years old and I didn't get a gift from my mother, but it wasn't something that hurt me. I'm sure that your son isn't hurt either.

We only have basic cable here, so we don't get the cartoon channels. So we get a lot of DVD's here . . . or rent/borrow them. We grew up with Looney Tunes . . . with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird and Sylvester and all them . . . and my daughter likes watching those. Some of it is rather violent though (we never thought of that until we were adults!) - so we actually don't like her watching them too much!!!

I can't help but wonder if the violence that was in all of these "classic" cartoons that provided a lot of the intrigue for younger viewers. I do let my children watch some of these things, but like you, it isn't too much.

The two that you've listed really are timeless. My little sister has quite a great collection of DVDs of classic cartoons that my children and my nieces are always wanting to watch.

Yes, Tom and Jerry is the favorite of my three year old son. What is really funny about it is that he will always ask me to watch Bob and Sheri and it took me until one day that I was flipping through the channels to see what was on that I figured out that he wanted to watch Tom and Jerry every time that he said he wanted to watch Bob and Sheri.
