I have a grudge against footballs...

Today the phone rang while I was at work. It was Dearra. She sounded upset, and she asked me to come and get her. Some boys had been throwing footballs during lunch and one hit her on the head. She said she had an ice pack on it and had a headache and couldn't concentrate on her math final.
So I got to the school office about 20 minutes later and there she was with the remnants of the ice pack on her head. I signed her out and found out that she had been standing with some friends and next thing she knew, whack, a football had hit her on the head and almost knocked her over.
The school nurse had a look, gave her an ice pack, told her to come back if she started seeing double or feeling queasy, and sent her to class. But Algebra's not her strongest suit on the best day, never mind when she has a splitting headache.
So on the way home she told me, "mom, I have a grudge against footballs."
"Well what about the boy who threw it?"
"No, it was an accident."
So why hold a grudge against the football, I wonder?

Dear Dawn,
I completly agree with Dearra. My husband was a profesional soccer player in his time. I became insanelly jealous of the d**** ball. I knew that he would always choose me as compared to another woman. But I never dared make him choose between me and the ball.
So, as you see, the evil is not on the players, but on the round produts of evil that have mermaid chants and turn otherwise wonderful boys into means of a deadly weapon.
I couldnĀ“t help but putting a picture of my hubby in the old days. He was gorgeous, besides having other qualities.
Hug

Hey dawn! I hope by now Dearra's headache is better~ As for
her "football grudge", beats me! I hope she does get over that
too! She will have a tough time going through school if she
has to avoid footballs forever! Or, maybe not? I guess she
won't be going in for Cheerleading then?

Nope, I don't see her being into cheerleading.
Going downstairs to check on her now!

Have her lay down in a dark room with her eyes closed, and the fan on making it nice and chilly, the headache should be gone in no time. It's an interesting way to look at it, I mean she could've blamed the boy, I know I would have.

Dawn, Dawn, Dawn. Have you forgotten your first crush? Did you want to discuss it with your mom?

LOL! That makes perfect sense to me. The boy that threw it didn't mean to hit her, so it must have been the football's fault!

Dang, and they didn't even question the football.

I bet the football intentionally targeted her, too, because it does not like girls that are about to take a math final. I hear that those kinds of unjustified attacks from footballs are on a rise across the country, although the media is trying to keep a lid on it.

awww I hope your little girl will be ok soon, and get some rest. She is such a fighter while so smart and understanding. Sounds like she is so ahead of us on that note. Maybe it will make her laugh, if you tell her that I said she is not alone on that. I have a grudge against footballs too. Those never roll as a ball, so why call a football if it does not roll like one and I also have a thing against punching bags, those can't ever take the hint and always come back at you after you push them, make me so mad LOL

oh yes, what is it? I wonder if anyone has a reference for the story of how it became known as football.

Cool story bro....
She was probably alright, a football can only hit but so hard when its not being pegged intentionally.

I don't know, I suppose if it hit you in the wrong place, it could do some damage...

Your daughter is so cute, holding grudges only at the football. Maybe because that was hurted her in the first place. So she might stay away from them for a while. And there should be a specific area where those boys can throw balls. I hope your daughter is okay now. Did she got to finish her math final? (^^,)

Probably. And who knows? Secretly she's probably happy she got a delay on the math final...

hi dawnald thats funny and so typical of kids blame the football and too she may have a wee crush on the football player who knows. but I do wish the kids were more careful as being hit with a football is not very funny and can actually hurt someone badly. In junior college a friend of mine was talking to me with her back to the athletics field and a ball came flying over the fence and hit her in the small of the back.down she went I went to get a teacher to phone the parimedics and they hospitalized her as she had just got out of the hospital for back sugery. darn. the fences were pretty high so whoever threw that was using muchtoo much force. so a pox on those old footballs and soccer balls. Sometimes I think children are a tad more fair minded than we give them credit for.in her eyes it was an accident. she is one smart cookie I grant you.

Hmm.. so she's angry and needs to hold something or someone responsible, but she's mature enough to realize the thrower didn't mean it.. so she's going to take her anger out on the football. Pretty smart! I think I probably would have blamed the thrower anyways.. I mean why couldn't he realize he might have hit someone?

On the other hand, I guess the boys are always throwing balls there, so maybe the girls should have been standing some place else. Or maybe they wanted to be where the boys were throwing balls. Hmm...

makes perfect sense to me. it was the football's fault for coming to school that day. the football should have known better than to be in the hands of such an obviously uncouth jock..

Granted, the boys should probably not have been throwing the football around other kids. I do think however that Dearra is being very mature by not blaming the boys. Maybe her grudge is because the footballs are such odd balls and will not bounce straight and are so unpredictable.

Could be, though later she did make a comment about stupid boys...

As everyone else has said, I think that's an interesting take too!! Stupid football - ha ha - what nerve footballs have for having pointed ends and bonking poor Dearra in the head! A similar thing happened to me in 3rd grade . . . one of the teachers hit a baseball from the other side of the kickball "field" and the ball came to our side and I just happened to be in the "right" place at the "right" time. BONK! I blamed the teacher - because he shouldn't have known better during school hours (as he was a baseball fan/player) and he never even apologized! Math was never my thing . . . so if it got me out of taking a final - I may have been half glad - hee hee!! Hope she's ok!!

It only got her out of it temporarily, though. I'm sure she'll have the joy and the privilege of making it up tomorrow!

That's an interesting take!
Grudge on the football, but not on the person who threw it and caused the accident.
I've always been fascinated with people who look at things differently. Sounds like your Dearra will grow up to be an interesting person.
And yeah, why call it a 'ball', when it has two pointed ends?!

Hi Dawnald. I hope your daughter is feeling better by now. That is funny that she has a grudge against footballs but not against the boy who threw it. Is he cute? Maybe she has a secret crush on him. :)
