I love to make this, I also loved it as a child. the old fashion way is just water chicken and flour. Most people like to add chicken broth and veggies and other things but i just like it simple.
I take a package of chicken, put it in a pot with half a pot of water, season with salt and pepper.
Boil it till its done, pull off the bone.
Take about a cup of the broth out of the pot and mix with flour, how much flour depends on how many dumplings you want.
Take dough and you can either roll it out smooth and cut off out squares or you can just spoon the batter into the pot.
Get the chicken boiling again then add the dumplings
let ook till dumplings are done and there is a thick gravy in the pot.
ENJOY!!

Hello Rebecca and welcome to myLot. Chicken and dumplings are one of my favorite meals. I usually add some celery carrots and onions for added flavor along with some sage thyme and maybe rosemary. I take the vegetables out and use them for something else. For my dumpling I usually make a very soft biscuit like dough and drop them by table spoon fulls. They are very fluffy and light. That is the way my grandmother always made hers. They are good over bean soup too.
