Hi My Lotters... I was just wondering if any of you here know anything about Spinabifida? I have a friend who was born with it, and the problem he has suffered with through his life is with walking, so he has crutches as an aid to walk, without those he would not be able to walk unaided... But my question is this... The older that somebody with this disease gets, does their body starting packing up on them, meaning like the internal organs... the reason why I am asking this, is because he always suffers with Diarria (cant think how to spell that sorry)... anyway just recently I would say over the last few years it seems to be getting worse, to the point that he can sometimes not even make it to the toilet. I feel so sorry for him, as it is such a horrible thing to suffer with. He already has a urinal bag, because he had an operation on his bladder when he was younger, and it went wrong, so he does not feel the need to go like the rest of us do, so he has no control over when he goes it just happens, so the urinal bag collects it, and he empties himself. But because of this bag he suffers terribly with bladder and kidney infections. I also have an aunt who also has a form of spinabifida and although she can walk unaided her problem is with her back, as it is miss formed. But over the last few years she can no longer make it to the loo on every occasion, she is older than my friend as she is 52, and my friend is 41. My aunt has actually been for tests on her stomach and bowel, and nothing has been found, as they thought it could be due to food that she eats. I have heard that people with spinafida to suffer with bowel troubles, but I am not really sure as to what extent, so I am hoping that someone out there could help. It is quite an embarrassing thing as you can probably imagine, for my friend. Any info gratefully recieved.

This type of disease start from the womb ,means from birth .IN this spinal cord is not completely developed or its covering .due to this abnormal development child have a type of paralysis and always have some problem with bladder control and bowel and other learning difficulties like hand-eye coordination . and they certainly require a help of doctors, neurosurgeon and as they get older sometimes the case become worsen and some times found some improvement.

I was born with spina bifida and yes I would say as we get older our organs get worse because I also go to the bathroom more frequently. I don't have a urinal bag or anything I wear adult padded underwear "depends". The pain also seems to be getting worse. I don't know if your friend has this problem but I have a shunt (tube in my head that runs down the inside of my body) that is used to drain fluid off of my brain. It has now broken so I am going in for surgery soon to get a new one put in on the opposite side. Things can get very frustrating for us but most of the time we try to be as independent as possible. Fortunately I was able to learn to walk without crutches or braces as I got older.
