The other night my lovely cat Merlin went for a wee on my bed and it really smells.
My mattress is not so bad but my duvet really, really smells. I have been leaving it outside to try and get rid of the smell and have also tried spraying it with febreeze but nothing seems to be working.
I know you can get urine removal sprays but they are expensive and would the work on bedding?
Do any of you have any home made lotions and potions that I could try to remove the smell?

First, I hope you aren't hanging it in the sun. The warmth of the sun will bake in the smell.
You really do need to pick up a small bottle of urine smell eliminator. I swear by Natures Miracle. It's available from PetCo or PetSmart. You can get a smaller bottle to treat BOTH the duvet and the bed. Even if your bed doesn't smell too bad, it still may have some of the odor in it. Having that treated will deter the cat from wizzing in the same spot again.
You can also try rinsing the duvet with a solution of white vinegar and water. Use about a half cup water to a forth cup of vinegar and spray it on the spot. The duvet will smell like a pickle for awhile, but it may eliminate the odor from the duvet.
Your best bet is Nature's miracle. I have been using it for the past couple of years and have been very satisfied with it. And, not only do the cats not reuse the spot to pee, but it has also eliminated old urine odors.

I tried the white vinegar because it was the cheapest option (though i forgot to add the water to it and just covered my duvet in the vinegar oops lol!) and although my duvet stinks still and now has a patch that feels a bit weird it now stinks of pickle and not wee so thats definitly a good thing! Will try to find some natures miracle for the future though so thanks for letting me know that works.

OUT brand makes an odor remover that is designed to remove pet urine odors and stains. What ever you do make sure you get the smell out completely or otherwise run the risk of having him do it again in the same spot.

wash your sheet or bedding area in hot water. maybe you can make ur own urine removal spray with natural products. i have read about it somewhere but i forget everything in it. maybe u can search it somewhere on the internet. i think it might have some vinegar in it, but i forgot.

Man, once they start that it is difficult to protect your goods! I think putting it outside is good, I would probably wash it with febreeze and/or oxy-clean. Then I would let it dry outside to make sure it is good and fresh. You may have to repeat the process a couple of times too.

I hope this will work as its the easiest option. Will go to the supermarket tomorrow and buy a huge bottle of febreeze as the one I had I've already finished!

Hi
very difficult - telling you from experience; my daughter had packed her suitcase as she had just got married & relocating to Switzerland, and just before departing for the airport she remembered to put something in her suit-case and then at that moment her pet cat jumped in and peed in it; for want of time my daughter wiped that effected part with a detergent and sprayed a deodorant and even a freshener and left; now even after more than 10 years that bag carries a slight stink when opened - but because it being very expensive & useful as well as very large and good capacity she does not want to get rid of it, and has tried everything to get rid of that smell with no success - now she jokes saying that her pet gave her a parting gift for years to come to remember her!!!
so at least you can have it washed properly and that should probably help. And by the way i am not sure but may be a little vinegar may help and some kitchen salt - no harm trying
