Getting more than what you order...

Personally, I have a few encounters where I was served more than what I ordered. Most of the times, I will raise this situation to the waiter that it's more than what I ordered to avoid any hassles when bill comes.
1. What would your reaction if you get more than what you ordered?
Recently, I was at a fast food restaurant where the counter staff gave extra portion (accidentally) to the customer. And when they realized it minutes later, they (the counter ladies) wanted to demand the customer to pay for the extra portion. (the word demand is correct because of the way they were discussing). Unfortunately, the customer was long gone.
2. Do you think it is appropriate for them to demand payment for the extra portion served?
3. How would you deal with such kind of situation? (You are the customer and they demand payment from you?)

well if they are giving extra without the customer asking
they shouldn't be charging customer more
I do that in business too, giving more than customers pay, just as courtesy
I never charge them for the extra stuffs, unless they are asking for it

Well said and good practice! However, not all businesses carry such practice. The reasons as to why are hard to guess. Rather than taking more that what I asked for and ending up with much more than I was prepared to pay, clarifying with them and getting the right order is what I would prefer as well.

well i have encountered that and humbly reject it. But if they are being rude about it then ill asked for my money back.
its not the fault of the customer if your clumsy.

Hi, you are right. In the first place, it's the staff who made the mistake. He/she should be make liable for the mistake so that he/she won't make the same mistake in future. Because not everyone will realize about the extra portion given and it is not an excuse for the staff to push the blame at the customer who didn't notify them of the extra portion.

I like your discussion question.
I never encountered this and hope I never will. I feel like the restaurant should have given him a percentage off the extra portion or paid for the whole thing. It was their mistake, not the customer's. I'm not quite sure how I would have dealt with it. I'm quite a passive person and don't like to argue, so I might just pay it and never return again.

Hi! Thanks for sharing.
Fortunately for the customer or unfortunately for the staffs, the customer went off before they could charge him/her for the extra portion served.
I am not sure how I would have reacted if they came to demand for money because I think it's unfair for the customer to be embarrassed in front of the other patrons especially the fault lies with the staffs.
I wonder if there is a rule that requires the staff (who made the mistake) to fork out the money from their salary to cover up this kind of situation.
