We have a golden retriever. He is very intelligent and he has a really strong personality. We have to be very firm when we are dealing with him, because he wants to be in control, and he is not very obedient. When I was a child my parents also had a golden retriever and his personality was completely different. He was very docile and eager to please. I didn't even have to raise my voice when I talked to him, because he was so obedient and eager to please. He was also very calm compared our dog. Our dog is so full of energy, he is always running around in the house, chasing the cat etc Do you have a golden retriever or have you had one in the past? What kind of personality does your dog have?

I think Golden Retrievers are very friendly dogs and although he is big but he is not harmful as other dogs. You said that your dog has a strong personality and he wants to be in control. How old is he? Maybe, if he is already over a year then maybe there is a problem of how you brought him up. If he is still young, I suggest that don't ever let your dog uncontrolled. People are more intelligent than animals and I think we have that knowledge how to deal, teach, and control them.

He is only 10 months old. We got him 8 months ago and at that time he was even more energetic and wild, he has already changed a bit, so I hope that he will calm down even more when he gets a little older.

I am a dog lover and I understand dog's language a little bit. I now understand. You are not really the one who brought him up until eight months old. Maybe your dog still adjusting to you . Base on my experience a dog become calmer when he became older.

Are retrievers and labradors the same? I think so 'coz we have one at home and he is soooooo charming and friendly. He wags his tail at everyone and he likes to always be close to you. Whenever I am out to feed them (we have three dogs), he would want to rub his huge body against my legs. My, oh my. He is so big and so heavy, but he is very cute.

I have a golden, and he is still a ball of energy. He is 2 years old now, we got him at 7 weeks. He was not properly trained at a younger age and I sincerely regret that now because he is now 80 pounds and I can't handle him. He is happy and excited all the time, but obedience is not in his vocabulary. If it was my choice, I would have gotten a smaller breed but this was a gift for my husband and that's what he wanted. I think you are right about being calmer when he gets older, at least I sure hope so. Good luck with your pup.

Dogs are human's good friends. Because they are very loyal. When you are alone, they can chat with you, they are very good listener. I also like dogs, but I don't like the dog aggressive.
