Because power will take you further than money can. Most politician are power hungry. They grew up getting their way, very spoiled, they were very bossy in school, and with kids in the neighborhood. They're usually horrible leaders, but they make connections, because people fear them from what they'll say about them, or what they'll keep from them. And those connections do their work for them. They don't want to change anything or make things better, because the way things are now is how they got into power in the first place. They'll tell you they want change, because they've mastered the art of manipulation, seduction, and con artistry. They'll do anything to get into power. Whoever they have to hurt, whatever they have to promise. Once they're in power all bets are off. Why do they need to please you, when they're in control?

a man in position, especially a government position means power, influence and money. maybe not in a direct way but these benefits stretch to all blood relatives with the same name and oftentimes are experienced by the politician himself after his service.

Politicians will do everything to win the positions they long for. And if they got it, that means POWER. And when they have that power, they think they are gods. And money is there, a lot, more than what they spent during the campaign. Is there anything else they want except power?

The comfort of power drives them to those violence. They want to win at any cost and stake all their earnings and wealth for that. They can earn more than that if they can only reach the position.Otherwise they will go astray. So,they go to any extreme to win and that is pure selfishness.

There's no difference between politics and war, even more dangerous and cruel. You must wipe out your enemy in battlefield, so you must beat your antagonist in political field, or you'll lose your things, even your life. but if you are the winner, all you cost will be back soon, and you'll get more.
