The Philippines' lower legislative body or the House of Representatives officially came to a close yesterday. The 14th congress, as it is known, ended with a plea from Representative Rissa Hontiveros to call the congressmen within the confines of the Batasang Pambansa so that they could act on the Freedom for Information Bill that would enable us to see how the government transactions go. And this particular bill is retroactive. That means we can scrutinize anomalous projects that the preceding administrations had done. But the congressmen, one by one, disappeared from the legislative hall during the course of the debates. When the quorum was gone, the Speaker of the House Nograles banged his gavel to kill the Information Bill.

It was the most disappointing sight I have ever seen. Nograles does not deserve to be the Speaker of the House. He could not even compel the congressmen to attend. It was so disgusting to watch Nograles suddenly remember a House rule that was not followed before! There should be a list of those congressmen who were complicit in the murder of the Freedom of Information Bill so that on the next election, we will also fail to come up with a quorum to bring them to Congress.
Nograles dares to say that he did his best but his best was not good enough. If that was his best, then he deserves his resounding defeat in Davao.

Indeed, all of us are hoping the best for the next administration. President-apparent Noynoy Aquino keeps on saying that "There will be no poverty if there will be no corruption." I hope that he is true with his word.I hope that he won't be affected with evil forces around him. In fact, many Filipinos are smart and intelligent. We are known all over the world because of our exceptional abilities. However, not all of us know how to use that God given talent.House Speaker Prospero Nograles was a bar top-notch but look at what he had done? He did not use it to serve the people but instead he used it for personal interest. If they are not hiding anything from us, then why should not they ratify the bill? Why is it he kept on cancelling that Act? Last February 2, 2010, copies of Bicameral Conference Committee Report on Freedom of Information (FOI)scheduled for distribution to the House members when suddenly went missing at the session hall.On February 3, 2010, they hold the distribution of the copies of FOI Act.On May 24, the House leadership implored proponents of the bill to withdraw their motion to ratify the bill and declared their commitment to enroll it on the agenda on the House on May 31. However, on May 31, move to suspend the session until June 4 for the closing of 14th Congress. From this, we can state an opinion that Nograles don´t have any intention at all to pass the bill.

The budget for a contract to purchase 350 tables and chairs at a horrendous price of more than 8 million pesos for use of mostly corrupt congressmen has been approved on the same day the 14th Congress adjourned. I wonder why these congressmen would need chairs and tables valued at 23,050 each when the old ones are hardly used because they are either absent or walking out of the session hall?

Hello eileen,
What happened there was very very "CLEAR" there is a Corruption in the country, most specially in the Legislative Department, more particularly the congress. I think if the NOgrales guy cared for this bill then he would have considered Villanueva's plea, but he didn't, he knew and took the opportunity to kill it.
Seeing this happened makes you realized people are hiding a lot of secret transactions and they have no way of allowing ordinary people to see the truth, unless they have successfully tampered with the real info of they're assets and liabilities.
The only hope now probably is for Noy to do something about this once he's proclaimed President, if he can do somethign about this.

looks like those opposing congressmen were really following a script. how selfish these men could be. protecting only the interest of the few especially themselves.

It was a very disappointing thing that election had just passed and it seems those congressmen had already forgotten what they had promised to people. They always say that they are ready to serve the people but the truth is that they are serving themselves alone using money from the people. It is so sad to think that we, Filipinos, works hard to survive and also pay them for the bills they are passing, and yet they are just wasting those money. I don't know where do they get the nerve of facing people saying lies about what help they can do. I do not wonder why Philippines is not improving as a country. It is because those people who are seated on the government just only think of themselves and nothing but themselves. They can pass a bill if they want to even without quorum and debate and they did not pass the bill which is a must for the Filipinos. The truth is now clearly visible to all us. Those politicians are hiding something from us and are scared for us to know what their anomalies are. They aren't supposed to be in the congress but must be under prosecution because of what they are doing to Filipino people.

In their action, it only tells how dirty politics are. They do not want Juan dela Cruz can dig their corruption. These politicians seem they own the Philippines that they will just put the money in their own pocket instead of giving them back to the people.
That is why corrupt politicians should be replaced with good and new people for a better governance. But, the question is??? Who will it be?? are there enough good people to do what is right these days???

Hiya eileen,
That must be really frustrating. I did hear who had been elected as I was trying to follow it with interest but they gave it two seconds and poof that was it. I don´t know the Person who was elected. I think he is the Son of Cory Aquino is that right or is someone with the same surname?
He does get paid a lot does´nt he our Prime Minister is only supposed to get paid 100,000 Euros a year but the Expenses are apart so go figure what expenses you can put in there.
There are many Laws being passed here and none of the People are in agreement with them at all. Our Prime Minister turns a deaf ear to any suggestions about his carrying out any Policies that could stabilize Spain. He even sacked about eight young Politicians just for making suggestions when he was the one who had asked for suggestions in the first place. There are always problems in the high realms of Politics everywhere.
The People the residents of Tenerife are getting a really tough deal too.
We may well have Elections if the unrest carries on like it is going.

They are good aren't they. Our lot is just about to vote themselves a $50,000 pay rise. That will put them on around $200,000 a year. Is that ridicules or what. The prime minister gets well over $300,000 now. That is something over 10 million pesos.
