Miss Ellie, a small, bug-eyed Chinese Crested Hairless dog whose pimples and lolling tongue helped her win Animal Planet's "World's Ugliest Dog" contest in 2009, died at the age of 17.
Her achievements since then had been appearing in US TV's Animal Planet cable show "Dogs 101", on billboards and in commercials. Over the years, Ellie had helped raises more than U$100,000 for the Sevier County Humane Society
Pigeon Forge Mayor Keith Whaley has proclaimed Nov. 12 as "Miss Ellie Day" for her owner's efforts to raise money for the local humane society.
May she rest in peace.

Alderica,
I fully agree with you that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
I doubt there's much choice when she was born with the defect of being hairless. I am just glad that the owner could look beyond that and had her to a ripe age.
Have a great weekend and God bless.

Well, it seems that Miss Ellie had a long and successful life. I certainly hope that even though she is gone that her memory will help to keep the efforts for the Sevier County Humane society going. It is important that all animals be taken care of and there are a lot of times that I don't feel like this is happening nearly enough. I wasn't familiar with Miss Ellie until your discussion, but I like knowing that her owners used her fame for good.

oldchem1,
Well, I don't know whether to call this fortunate or unfortunate for her when she earned that title at the 21st Annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California, in 2009.
However, I am just sad that she is gone now but I am glad there are nice people like her owner around that will save dogs who are captured and locked in the pounds.
