Do you think that your Good and Bad Deeds(Karma) affect your children?

I really have been wanting to ask this question since long but never got the right words but looks like the words are really flowing today. My dad worked abroad and had lots of opportunity to make money by taking bribes but never did and would also not let go off a single cent of his hard earned or rightly deserved money and once I jokingly asked him why he did not take bribe as we could have lived in luxury. He smiled and answered that he believed that if he took that money he would have lived in luxury but then it would have affected our lives. He says that Good Deeds helps your children and so does Bad Deeds and to tell the truth all his kids are really doing well in life. Your thoughts?

Nice question avani, in fact I also think about this a lot. Since I have heard this, I am always careful to see that I don't commit any such sin, that will affect my children. Even if I hurt someone or fight with someone, I immediately tell sorry, because the fear that it will affect my children makes me feel guilty and I quickly say sorry and clear my conscious........I don't know if this statement is true or false, but it helps me to remain far from sin....which is good and I feel peace at heart and mind. Any person who loves his children will believe in this statement and surely avoid indulging into any kind of bad deeds.

i dont know but in my believe i dont think so. the effects of my work should affect only my future not my children. what can they do if their father had done a crime and it is not their crime that they born to a criminal(say). so if you are doing good or bad you will be rewarded fot that , and not your children or any of your family member

You yourself said it a criminal does not affect his own life but even of his immediate family whereas even today the generation of saints get the respect for what their ancestors did so it does affect maybe indirectly.

I agree with your Dad, 1000%. Live life free from bad deeds. It will haunt you even your next generation. Stay away from bad deeds if I were you.

There is a sayin gin my local language, people will not understand ( Bade put pita ke karman) if I post it as it is so I am trying to convey the message - It says that the deeds (karma) of a father does affect the life of son but agriculture demands own efforts. You should feel pround about your father. many people are influenced because of money to do bad activities and earn a good life but that does not last forever. Its our deed that makes us satisfied. I can feel that your father must be a satisfied man. I do believe in this saying and do not prefer to earn black money.

Yeah I totally agree with your dad. Good people are hard to come by these days and it affects the future generation badly. Besides, what you do and who you are follows you around like a cloak. In the end if your a bad person your children will suffer for it but if you are good, they will benefit from the legacy you left behind no matter how small :-]

Hi olayemi: I think that the best advice a dad can give to his children it's with their own actions so our friend must be proud of her father and what he has done, that's a good way to teach her to chose the moral option and not the easy way. If we want to change societies, we have to start with our own lives. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

i think your dad is right in doing right deeds but i don't think that if a father or a mother do something wrong, their children will suffer. I believe God will not let the children suffer for the bad things their parents did.

Yes, Avani, taking bribes is wrong and your dad knew it. Kids look up to their parents. Kids learn more about values, morals and integrity from how their parents live their lives than by what their parents or anyone tells them. Your father was a very smart man.

Same is the case with my father in law. When those in his rank retired with three or more houses and a few cars with other property and assets, my father in law just had a flat he built and the pension money! Still he is yet to get his arrears...it took almost 1 1/2 years to get pension, just because he did not want to give bribe to those people!!! he retired as director of town planning of cal metro coorporation. u wont say that he held that post by his looks...very humbly dressed and soft spoken...one day when he was in office, this promoter came with a lot of gifts, sweets and left it at home. My mother in law did not have any clue as of where it came from, so she waited for him. When he came home he was furious with that man. The very next day all were sent back. It was sent as a thanx to him coz he signed the permit to build a multistoried building, the promoter had said if it were some one else, they would have to give lakhs...but there are people who take him for granted, utilise him...he is least bothered...still helps them when they come knocking!!! he is one man!!! very God fearing and true to heart!!!

Any deeds we are involved in have to affect our children in some way. We can see more easily when good deeds have a positive impact on them. it is a little more difficult when bad deeds are copied by them. We want them to follow the good paths in life. We have to lead by example. This include anything we consider to be a bad deed.

Hi avani: I have to tell you that I don't beleive in Karma but I think that your dad does well. Maybe Karma doesn't exist at all but for me it's clear that every bad action has it's consequences and Would you look at your children eyes and teach them to be good being a dishonest person. I don't think so and maybe that's the reason why a bad decition can took your children lives. Thanks for sharing with us this story. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

We are what we learn. Living life the best way you know does teach our children to be good. occasionally you will find a black sheep who changes their own lives. Good family child will turn bad. Bad family the child will do good. All we can do is be all we can be.

Totally agree with your father, I really admire your fathers view. Yes, it affects to your children or your other closest relatives like your spouse etc... I believe that if you do such bad and good deeds it will surely affect you and your closest ones as well. Our Hindu culture strongly believe in the policy of Karma.

I think karma is true but I believe, it does not just apply to your children but to the person himself as well. It is but right for your dad to live on with his principles and keep these principles intact. The good karma will not just reflect in his life but to all people who are dear to him as well. If you keep the discipline your father has shown you, then I believe, good karma will also come to your life.
