Was sending a totally green team to Zimbabwe justified?

We were the number two side in ODIs and we have tamely relinquished the spot be we sent an inexperienced team to Zimbabwe. It is all very well to give youngsters a chance, but not so many of them together. I agree Zaheer and Harbhajan need rests, but what has Nehra done to deserve a rest? Why did we not send experienced bowlers like Sreesanth and Munaf Patel along with a couple of youngsters? I agree, that their bowling has not been anything to write home about either, but the collective efforts of the current bowling attack, that too against a team like Zimbabwe was pathetic to say the least. What about Yuvraj? He has been in terrible form and needed time in the middle.Does experimentation have to be given priority and national pride a back seat? Look at Sri Lanka, they too have a young side, but have enough experience and fire power to win them the tournament. They have not sacrificed their national team's reputation like we did.It just show that our so called "bench strength" is nowhere near World standard, more so where bowling is concerned.

I agree with you here. The bowlers in this team used only to playing on our home wickets were all at sea in Zimbabwe.Except for Jadeja who was doing well with both bat and ball the others could not find their feet despite playing 3 matches. What happened to Murali Vijay who was hitting sixers during the IPL?Here he was worse than a club cricketer and so was Karthick. Our openers let us down in all matches. I think our selectors were at fault here completely underestimating the Zimbabweans who played faultless cricket against our team. Our batsmen also let us down and were not able to bat consistently with the result that the opposition was able to get the better of us. I think that Sreesanth should have been sent as he has experience and could have given him a chance to get back into form.Anyway it has shown the selectors what our supposed bench strength really is.

no , i think it is not like that. we are not aiming to maintain our current spot in the ranking. but there is one big target ahead , and that is the world cup. you want the best 11 to play in the world cup. if you always play with the senior players you cannot find out who can change the play from our junior side. now the chance is well utilized by virat, rohith and also by ashwin by scoring 38 runs and also taking 2 top wicket. we need the most stable squad to play in the world cup and these kind of experiments will give you some player who can really fight with the difficulties and make a one man show. and for senior players there are a lot of tournaments are coming like australia's indian tour and champions trophy. but i am agreeing with you that irfan and uthapa should get in the team but it is their unfortunate.

you are true, itoo think that we have to add the out of form players too for that tour like yuvi and nehra but we have to remember that we send 5 main team players like vijay, raina, jadeja, pathan, and kohli.. and jadeja , pathan ,and vijay shown through their performance that they are no longer deserves an indian team uniform... really poor performance from these guys .

Sending a bench team was justified but the players they send weren't. For example Irfan Pathan wasn't there neither was Robin Uthappa. There are many players which the board has overlooked for a long time and these players who can make a difference aren't groomed or given a chance. Even Kamran Khan wasn't given a chance to play. But yea these players will get some experience which might help them prepare for future.

Sreesanth is way out of the selectors radar now and to tell you the truth I do not want to see him in national colours anymore! I think Nehra should have been in the team. And more so, it would have been better if Sachin was in the team. He would have made a lot of difference in the game plan and strategy. That guy is a superman!
